Tue Aug 28, 2012 4:28 pm
This past weekend's Bellator 73 event averaged 167,000 viewers on MTV2, which gave this year's "Summer Series" events an average of 180,000 viewers.

That's actually an improvement over the ratings for this year's sixth season, which averaged 155,000 viewers over 11 events.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the ratings information with industry sources.

Bellator 73 took place this past Friday, Aug. 24, at Harrah's Tunica Hotel and Casino in Mississippi. In the headliner, Atilla Vegh knocked out Travis Wiuff to win the "Summer Series" light-heavyweight tournament, and in the co-headliner, Marcos Galvao scored a TKO victory over Luis Nogueira to win the Season 6 bantamweight tourney.

The main card, which also included wins by Mike Mucitelli and Mike Wessel, followed prelims on Spike.com.

Bellator's seventh season, which kicks off next month, is the final one on MTV2 before the organization moves to the higher-rated Spike TV, which is the former home of the UFC.

The all-time Bellator-MTV2 ratings include:
•Bellator 73 ratings: 167,000 viewers
•Bellator 72 ratings: 193,000
•Bellator 71 ratings: No broadcast
•Bellator 60-70 ratings (Season 6 average): 155,000
•Bellator 49-59 ratings (Season 5 average): 186,000
•Bellator 46-48 ratings (Summer Series average): 229,000
•Bellator 35-45 ratings (Season 4 average): 204,000
