I guess Storm-Enomoto was nixed after Storm lost to Tito. I hope Enomoto is still on this card.

Obviously not the type of win he would want but I'm glad Rogers won.

That looks like it didn't feel good. Not really a loss IMO. Hopefully he can return to the sport.

This is becoming an issue. In the last year we've had Anderson, Spong, and now this.

Rogers chose to plant his foot and brace against the low kick instead of checking the kick. You hit a tree rooted in the ground with a 2X4 and it will snap with a good shot. Simple physics. In actuality this is a good passive aggressive defense that can end your opponent's night immediately. In this case it was inadvertent.
No one has figured out yet that if your willing to taken the pain a few times, either your opponent's leg breaks or he will never throw another kick in the fight again. Go low-kick a door jam hard as see how that goes for ya.

I believe you but I just point it out cause it seems like people are checking more. Don't get me wrong, this has happened but it seems more and more are checking those kicks. I just don't recall so much in so little time. I agree. I wouldn't want to kick Rogers' leg.

Its a really common Thai boxing injury...
If yo actually CHECk the kick and don't lift up or back away its a thing that will happen more and more.
Great way to defend leg kicks...
Look fir Aldo or barao to soon suffer the same fate as Anderson.

Not really a good strategy, imo.
These kind of injuries will happen.
However, letting someone axe away at your leg is more likely to be detrimental to you, it would seem to me.

It'd be interesting if there were statistics from professional muay thai available to get an idea of how commonplace this kind of injury is. Perhaps it's a very common injury, perhaps some of these fighters are not properly conditioned for the kicks. Spong you'd expect to be properly conditioned, but hard to say about the others.
I'm really just speculating here. But muay thai is the mother style basically of the technique (in a practical sense).

There's nothing common about this injury in thai boxing.
And I mean thai boxing, not mma or kickboxing or dutch muay thai or french muay thai or any of those.

Maybe if your fighting a Thai MT guru who grew up chopping down trees, but not if your Anderson or Malikov here. Ask either of those guys to kick the base of a calf/leg-thick tree... shin bone on the lower part of the planted tree. Now substitute a 280 lb black dude with his foot planted & lightly-flexed leg rigged while bracing against the kicker's bared shinbone impact while the guy's weight on his front foot.
If I put rubber feet on my ottoman while it's on my stone tile kitchen floor and then kick it as hard as I can with my shin... what do your thing may happen? And that thing only weights 30lbs although it would have a higher coefficient of friction than Rogers' bare foot on the mat.
Not sayin' it ain't gonna hurt a lot taking the kick with this defense but there's good chance your opponent's leg will break a fair bit before yours, or that he will not want to kick your legs anymore.

Maybe guys will start throwing low kicks with proper technique now instead of just winging their shinbones into whatever part of the leg they feel like.
Similar to Anderson and Spong, this guy here kicks right at the bend of Brett's knee which is an incredibly dense and tough part of the body when pressure is applied to it.
If you kick the thigh there's nothing to worry about because there's enough muscle there for it to 'gently' absorb the impact.

Leg breaks like this I've seen numerous times even in amateur level muay thai.
Fact is muaythai guys you know the ones chopping down trees by shin, literally fracture their shins and build massive calcum deposits over top creating a stronger heavier denser bone.
Once people start to actually plant the foot like dag said leg will break or I guarantee they will think twice about throwing it.
Another unique defense is to actually kick the attacking leg.much more risky as far as injuring yourself but also a higher rate of breaking the attackers leg in 2.
