Bellator Fighting Championships signs Brazilian heavyweight Vinicius Queiroz
Fri Mar 30, 2012 3:54 pm
Brazilian giant Vinicius Queiroz (5-2 MMA, 0-0 BFC) is the latest addition to the Bellator Fighting Championships roster.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed with sources close to the promotion that "Spartan" has agreed to a deal with the promotion and could make his Bellator debut in an upcoming season-six event.
A member of Brazil's famed Chute Boxe academy, Queiroz hasn't fought since a UFC 120 loss to Rob Broughton in October 2010.
The 6-foot-7 Queiroz has never fought in the U.S. He competed six times in his native Brazil before signing with the UFC in 2010. He then competed at UFC 120, which took place in London, where he was dominating Broughton before ultimately slowing in the final frame and succumbing to a come-from-behind submission.
Following the loss, Queiroz tested positive for the banned substance Stanozolol and was released by the promotion.
All five of Queiroz's career wins have come via knockout, including four in the opening round.
Queiroz's first appearance for the promotion has yet to be determined.

Looking forward to seeing him fight. Hopefully they can build up some new HW stars with their next tournament.

Yeah, there are a lot more foreign fighters coming in. Probably because promotions want more exciting fighters rather than LNP wrestlers.

^ True. Brazilians are a special case IMO. Unlike other countries that have takedown styles like Sambo, wrestling or judo. We don't have the first two and the third is not trained in 99% of mma gyms. So there's no takedown and control. So either we knock out or submit. If Queiroz does well you'll have an exciting fighter to watch, just wait and see.
Not calling Sambo and Judo boring. Just pointing that because of a huge flaw in our game makes us to really go to the finish.

Bellator have signed a nice selection of global fighters this last year:
Queiroz, Atilla Vegh, Marcus Vantinnen, Jonas Billstein (despite the Goodman hiccup), Norman Paraisy, Bruno Santos, Vasilevsky, Andrey Koreshkov, Zaromskis, Ueda, Mann, Rodrigo Lima.
May they continue to keep signing more global fighters of this calibre.

Definitely. Brazilian fighters are the most exciting. That's why this TUF Brazil show is so awesome. A lot of sweet fighters on there like Drinaldo,...
