Severn vs shamrock is legit mma and probly only fight id watch....but it will be boring as all hell.

^Shamrock/Severn was one of the worst fights ever but was held under special rules in UFC way back in the day. Hope this one is better.

Shamrock/Severn fought twice.

Both times in Superfights. No special rules, if anything just a longer time limit for the fight.

^It was their second fight at UFC 9 which was one of the worst fights ever with no action from either of them.  The athletic commission ordered no closed fist strikes just before the event but they didn't listen.

^For ufc 9 they were in court that afternoon fighting to get the event to happen.

ufc agreed to rules changes/fines but never enforced them and were never going to enforce them. As far as the fighters, they fought like any other ufc at the time.

Shamrock at times has used this situation as an excuse for his horrible performance. Shamrock has a million excuses why he's always 'dropped the ball' in the big moments of his career.

That's true.  I just revised my post to clarify as you were writing this response.  I remember that event back in the day and the craziness leading up to it.  Plus, McCarthy kept telling all the fighters to open their hands when striking but he didn't really mean it and they didn't really listen anyway.  The rule was just basically ignored.

And yes...ufc 9 was pretty bad.

Them circling and not engaging at all for the first 30 minutes.

I hope they don't totally embarrass themselves in this 3rd fight. This will be a quick turnaround for Ken since he's fighting Royce then Dan. I suspect Dan will destroy Shamrock.

Yeah, that one has to go down at least in the top 10 of worst fights ever. It was so boring.

That is a short turn around for Ken, I agree. Hopefully they put on an entertaining fight, if nothing else.

I think Severn takes this over Tank. It's unreal Severn has 101 wins, has been around from the beginning and is still fighting.

MMA has gone in a very bad direction.

Now we have event after event headlined by early '90s stars in their 50s.

That is an absolute joke and doesn't make for serious sport at all.

There have been many very good technicians in MMA, including those still in their athletic prime.

If they were properly promoted, they could excite people with their innovative techniques and exciting fights.

MMA is basically a fucking joke.

He's in his 50s.

He's got 2 weeks to "get in shape" now and fight another old fighter, who has only beat career losers and noob fighters over the past years?

Severn should be the one in better shape and should win. But the entire event is a fucking joke, and the fight will also probably suck.

When I use to train in MMA (never fought, never got good, nagging injuries, financial problems over gym memberships, etc. I learned enough boxing to make me the best at my boxing club later, though I still got my ass kicked in my only sanctioned amateur fight) the MMA gym I trained at did have some pro fighters.

I remember when Shamrock-Frye 2 was made in Pride.

Everyone's reaction was basically "why the fuck are those old farts fighting again?"

That was so many years ago, and these old farts are still fighting in meaningless fights at the top of cards.

Nothing against old farts, but fighters who are actually decent in 2016 deserve the shots and the paydays.

It's an absolute joke.

Also for all those talking about UFC 9; for some reason Shammy and Severn followed the no strikes rule.

Things learned from this event:

1.Severn and Tank are willing to fight again.
2.You can use big name guys under contract in grappling matches some times.
3.Apparently RJJ, Angle, Mysterio, Bisping, and Sonnen are affordable to hire for these kind of things.
4.For the last time dont give Shamrock money up front!
