Tue May 08, 2012 4:33 pm
Former M-1 Challenge lightweight champion Artiom Damkovsky talks about his preparations for the fight, future plans and his popularity in Belarus
- How are you preparations going?
– I train twice a day. Jogging and shadowboxing in the morning, sparring-sessions, condition training, wrestling and striking trainings in the evening. It’s my normal training regimen
- What do you know about your opponent?
– I watched the videos of his fights, I know what he usually does in the fight, I already have a gameplan. I just need to make everything work in the fight, that’s it. I’ll try to do it
- You are one of the best strikers in M-1, but ground game has always been one of your weaknesses. Have you improved in this component since your last fights?
– I’ve been working on it all the time. My coaches tell me, that I’m better on the ground than I used to be. I tend to believe them (laughs)
- You’ve been training a lot with Dmitry Shakuta, he is one of the best muay thai specialist in the world. How did these trainings help you as a fighter?
- I’m still working with Dmitry, the best things that I can get from him are from muay thai arsenal – knees, kicks etc.
- Who of M-1 fighters would you like to see as your next opponent?
– Everything goes according to my plans, I just want to get M-1 belt back
- Are you popular person in your native country Belarus? How usually do people recognize you on the streets?
– Not so usually, just some MMA fans. And, of course, my relatives and friends always support me
- You are one of the favorite foreign fighters in Russia. What would you like to say to the fans?
– Thank you for your support, it helps me a lot. I’ll do all to make you happy on May 16
- What do you usually think about when you are on your way to the ring?
– I am focused only on the fight, victory is all that I think about before the fights
- What goal do you have in the life? What would you like to do, not only in sports, but in your life generally?
– I already have a lot: my wife, my friends, my job that I like. What’s left? I guess I need to build the house on seaboard, plant a tree and raise the son.
