Denis Komkin: “It seemed like I can submit Monson”

Russian heavyweight Denis Komkin shares his thoughts about the fight with American veteran Jeff Monson and the things that he did wrong in this match

“I’m the one and only person to blame for this defeat. I didn’t hear my coach, I didn’t follow my gameplan. I knew that I have to avoid the fight on the ground with so high-level grappling specialist, but at one point it seemed that I have a chance to submit him”

“I had to get up and continue this fight in stand-up, but when I took him down successfully, I thought that maybe he is not so good on the ground. I wasn’t going to go for the choke, I just wanted to work from the top with my punches, but then I went for chokehold with no apparent reasons and it was my very big mistake. He actually was much better on the ground than I expected”

“It’s pity, but hopefully I learned something, thanks to Jeff. Also I had to wait for quite long time before my fight, so I burned out and entered the ring having wrong state of mind. I prepared myself for the fight too early, then I relaxed when I didn’t have to. So, it’s completely my fault”

“I had a great chance to get to the next professional level, but I didn’t use it. I will analyze everything to come back stronger, so hopefully I will not disappoint my fans. But this time I can only apologize for this fight and promise that I will not underestimate my opponent’s skills in the future”

not a chance....komkin wasnt going to sub monson....not to bash him, but you have to be a little dumb or stupid to think that monson ground game wasnt as good as they seemed...dude he is a multi time abuh dabi champ..

Yea the dude wasn't successfully at Abu dhabi for nothing.

Komkins chance to win was his punching power. Trying to submit Monson was a stupid move, he should have done everything in his power to sprawl and brawl.
