Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:59 pm
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Steve Koepfer of the American Sambo Association (ASA) and Kris Iatskevich of the International Submission Wrestling Alliance (ISWA) about the North American Throwdown (http://www.caccmedia.com).
The North American Throwdown will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012, in Joliette, Quebec, Canada, near Montreal. It will feature both the ASA's Eighth Annual North American Freestyle Sambo Championships and the ISWA's Catch Wrestling Open tournament, also known as the Carpentier Open. Grapplers from all styles and affiliations are encouraged to compete.
We spoke with Steve Koepfer and Kris Iatskevich by phone Thursday about this historic event. We discussed the shared history of sambo and catch wrestling, the rules of each of these tournaments, why this is such an important step forward for both styles of grappling, and much, much more.

There is a long way to go for catch, but as Kris said, the future is bright. And if Zuffa self-destructs, its growth may be even faster.
