FujiTV to air K-1 World Grand Prix “Best of” series Empty FujiTV to air K-1 World Grand Prix “Best of” series

FujiTV has not gotten out of the combat sports business completely.

The television station has announced they will be airing a “Best of” series from the K-1 World Grand Prix in 2002, 2003, and 2004. Not all bouts are from the finals.

The K-1 World Grand Prix was to Japan what the World Series is to the United States. The tournament was a monster success in the mid to late 1990′s but gradually fell off until their demise which began in 2010. The founder, Kazuyoshi Ishii was sent to prison for tax evasion which was all but a death sentence for the event.

FujiTV aired the 1997 K-1 World Grand Prix in January in the 9pm-12am time slot, a time slot that is quite valuable in Japan.

A group of investors purchased the name and branding but has done a miserable job at promoting the events.

The best of series will air every week in February, beginning the 12th. February 26th will mark the final airing of the series.

February 12th “Best of 2002″
Bob Sapp vs Ernesto Hoost
Jerome Le Banner vs Mark Hunt
Mark Hunt vs Mirko Cro Cop (from Nagoya)

February 19th “Best of 2003″
Mike Bernardo vs Alexey Ignashov
Musashi vs Remy Bonjasky
Remy Bonjasky

February 26th “Best of 2004″
Musashi vs Remi Bonjasky
Cyril Abidi vs Musashi
Gary Goodridge vs Mighty Mo
Kaoklai Kaennorsing vs Mighty Mo
