Super Fight League Co Founder Sanjay Dutt Imprisoned For Connection to 1993 Mumbai Terrorist Attacks Empty Super Fight League Co Founder Sanjay Dutt Imprisoned For Connection to 1993 Mumbai Terrorist Attacks

Fri Mar 22, 2013 3:36 am
The Super Fight League was relaunched earlier this month but the Indian promotion suffered a major setback yesterday with news that co founder Sanjay Dutt has been sentenced to five years in prison for his connection with the 1993 Mumbai bombings in which 257 people were killed.

Dutt had previously spent 18 months in prison relating to charges of supplying weapons to the criminal group behind the attack. He formed the SFL alongside fellow celebrity Raj Khundra in January, 2012.

The news has disastrous implications for Dutt’s diverse business interests according to Reuters who quoted Bollywood trade analyst Amod Mehra as saying,

“It is a big blow. There are 250 crore ($46 million) riding on him.”

SFL 14 is set to take place in Mumbai on March 29th but with its the co founder’s connection to the most destructive bomb explosions in Indian history having been proven in a court of law and heavily publicized all over the world it remains to be seen whether it is viable for his company to continue putting on cards in the same city where the attack took place.

At the time of writing no venue has been announced for SFL 14 and tickets do not appear to be on sale yet but details about the card, which will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Xavier Foupa Pokam and John Troyer, can be found here.
