LHW Paul Buentello vs james mcsweeney headlines Legacy FC 22 august 23rd

Texas native Paul Buentello will try to make it four straight when he headlines Legacy FC 22 in front of his home crowd later this summer.

Buentello (32-15) meets Marcus Sursa (12-8) in a light heavyweight bout to headline the Aug. 23 show in Lubbock, Texas. Legacy Fighting Championship officials recently announced the show, which will have a six-fight main card that airs live on AXS TV.

Although Legacy FC has not yet announced a venue for the event, sources close to the promotion told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Fairgrounds Park Coliseum is being considered as host.

Buentello, a former UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight title challenger, has won three straight with a pair of knockouts. The 39-year-old "Headhunter" is 5-5 in his past 10 bouts, which started with an 0-2 stretch in his return to the UFC with losses to Stefan Struve and Cheick Kongo.

Buentello's resume includes a pair of wins under the short-lived Affliction banner and a 3-1 mark for Strikeforce, with his lone loss coming in a heavyweight title fight against then-champ Alistair Overeem. In his first UFC stint, Buentello went 3-1 with his lone loss coming in a title fight against Andrei Arlovski.

Sursa, who like Buentello hails from Amarillo, Texas, is coming off a submission win for the C3 Fights promotion in April. For higher-end competition, Sursa has a Bellator fight on his resume, a loss to Eddie Sanchez at Bellator 20. He also went 3-1 for Shark Fights with three stoppages. His lone loss came to Trevor Prangley.

Legacy FC 22 also will include recent Bellator MMA "Fight Master" contestant Aretenas Young (9-5) against Eric Davila (20-12). Young, a one-time Strikeforce fighter with a 2-1 Legacy record, looks for his second straight while Davila will be trying to snap a two-fight skid.

Also on the card, UFC and WEC vet Damacio Page (12-9) tries to make it two in a row for Legacy against an opponent yet to be announced. Page knocked out Patrick Ybarra in May at Legacy FC 20 in his first fight since being released from the UFC on a four-fight skid.

Haven't seen Buentello in a while.  Will be cool to see him at 205.  Card is pretty solid.

I liked buentello but at hw his gas tank and speed were never elite but the cut to 205 may really point that out.

Good to see him help bring up some younger talent.much like older pro wrestlers on the way out of their career they usually try and cling to their legacy and never want to help bring up new talent but buentello is willing to fight anyone.

There has been a change atop Legacy Fighting Championship's next card.

Marcus Sursa (12-8) has been forced out of his main event light heavyweight fight against Paul Buentello (32-15) at Legacy FC 22. Stepping in for him will be James McSweeney (11-10).

Promotion officials recently confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) for the Aug. 23 card, which takes place in Lubbock, Texas, likely at Fairgrounds Park Coliseum. The main card will air live on AXS TV.

McSweeney has been on a nice run that has seen him win five of his past six fights and seven of his past nine following a rough stretch of four straight losses. The first two of those setbacks came in the UFC with TKO losses to Travis Browne and Fabio Maldonado, and those got him released from the promotion after a win in his debut at the TUF 10 Finale. The "TUF 10" vet and England native has all 11 of his career wins by stoppage.

Buentello, a Texas native, will be looking for his fourth straight win against the fellow UFC vet. Buentello is a former UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight title challenger with a resume that includes a 3-1 record for Strikeforce with the lone loss coming in a heavyweight title fight against Alistair Overeem. Buentello is a nice addition to any company at 205, plus people like his style, he stands and bangs
