Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana II: Broner picks up option, rematch likely in April

It looks like Adrien Broner will try to avenge his first defeat against Marcos Maidana this spring.

Yesterday it was reported that Adrien Broner was wanting to have a rematch with Marcos Maidana, the only man to defeat him as a professional. Ever since he lost to Maidana on December 14, Broner had been making it clear on Twitter that he would come back better than ever and have his revenge. Today, it looks like it is officially coming together.

Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reported on his Twitter account that Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has informed him that Broner has indeed picked up his contract option for a rematch with Maidana. Rafael also reported that Schaefer mentioned it will likely either happen on April 19 or April 26, and gave the StubHub Center in Carson, California and the Alamodome in San Antonio (where the first fight took place) as possible locations. Naturally, the fight will be televised by Showtime.

This isn't shocking news, but it is a big fight that will have fans excited. Their first battle was excellent and gave us one of the best events of the year. Will Broner gain revenge and continue his track to stardom or does Maidana have his number? Let's find out.

Also of some importance are the dates. With Floyd Mayweather scheduled to return (now almost assuredly against Amir Khan) the fight will likely be accompanied by All Access, Showtime's preview for their big boxing events. It's a great time for exposure, and if Maidana wins again he could become the natural opponent for Mayweather in September.

i dont think bronner deserves the chance at a rematch, imo maidana was the challenger for floyd, more deserving than amir khan who is most likely to face mayweather next
