I'm going with Suzuki in this one and Ben should be fighting the winner for sure.

Yeah, I plan to watch out for that. If his competition isn't to par, he will be getting past up in the rankings.

This will be a tough fight for Suzuki. I'm still unsure about how far he can really go with his grappling deficiencies.

Moraes/Urushitani is a killer fight. Hopefully they can get Kojima/Leone on this card too.

ONE FC 14: War of Nations Results & Discussion Empty Re: ONE FC 14: War of Nations Results & Discussion

Wed Jan 15, 2014 6:45 pm
ONE FC: War of Nations is set for Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur on March 14 and two more fights have been booked for the card, which was announced earlier this week. Top contenders at 155 pounds and 125 pounds will collide when Eddie Ng takes on Kamal Shalorus and Andrew Leone meets Shinichi Kojima.

Ng (7-1) has established himself as a leading contender for the lightweight belt with four wins out of four under the banner of Asia’s biggest MMA promotion. He bounced back from a yearlong layoff due to a serious shoulder injury to submit both Peter Davis and Arnaud Lepont in 2013.

Shalorus (8-3) won a unanimous decision victory over Eduard Folayang in his ONE FC debut last year to instantly establish himself as a potential title contender. The belt is currently held by Ng’s Evolve MMA teammate Shinya Aoki, but he intends to drop down to 145 pounds at some stage, which would open the way for the Hong Konger to fight for the title.

Kojima (13-5-5) and Leone (6-2) were initially set to face off in the main event of ONE FC: Champions & Warriors in Jakarta last September until a knee injury to the American put paid to the proposed match-up between two of the organization’s top flyweights.

Kojima is coming off a submission win over Rey Docyogen. He is a Shooto veteran who made his MMA debut in 2003 and will have a significant advantage over the up-and-coming New Yorker in terms of experience.

Leone won a comfortable decision victory over Geje Eustaquio in his flyweight debut having competed at bantamweight for the majority of his career, registering notable wins over former ONE FC 135-pound champion Soo Chul Kim and former Road FC 135-pound champion Kyung Ho Kang.

With flyweight contenders Adriano Moraes and Yasuhiro Urushitani also facing off in Kuala Lumpur on March 14, the 125-pound picture should become much clearer in the wake of this card with the winners possibly facing off for the belt.

ONE FC: War of Nations will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Nobutatsu Suzuki and Brock Larson and will also feature a battle between top bantamweight contenders Kevin Belingon and Dae Hwan Kim.

NG/Shalorus should be a good one. I like this matchup. Would be a big win for Ng if he can get by him.

Peter Davis is a Wuji Chuan exponent and the face of mixed martial arts in Malaysia. Along with being the top Lightweight in Malaysia, he is also a prominent celebrity with a long list of modeling and acting roles to his name. Davis consistently finishes his opponents in impressive fashion and he will be looking to use his lanky frame and significant reach advantage to propel him to victory against Wes Jaya.

Wes Jaya is a longtime Muay Thai practitioner with more than 70 fights and multiple championships. The Canadian-Malaysian has since made a successful transition to mixed martial arts, having picked up two wins so far. He will be taking a step up in competition as he faces the more experienced Peter Davis. With both fighters coming from striking backgrounds, this bout looks set to be an exciting pugilistic battle contested on the feet.

Saiful Merican is one of the top Muay Thai practitioners in Malaysia. He has more than 100 professional Muay Thai fights and possesses ferocious kicks that have knocked out many opponents. Nicknamed “The Vampire” by fans for his fast and deadly style, he looks to notch up another victory when he takes on Cambodia’s Khim Dima. In Saiful’s last bout, he utilized fluid striking to defeat Dima’s teammate Tok Sophon.

Khim Dima is the son of a legendary Cambodian fighter and has been training and competing since the age of 8. He is a veteran of over 250 Kun Khmer fight and is a champion at the Channel 3 Stadium in Cambodia. Fighting out of the Afighter camp in Phnom Penh, he trains in MMA every day and has also been working with the Cambodian wrestling team to improve his grappling. He is a highly intelligent individual who uses his fight purses to pay his way through law school and is likely to apply a thoughtful, tactically astute approach to his MMA fights.

Fans in Asia can catch all the action live on STAR Sports. Check your local listings. Also, fans from around the world can witness the action online via live streaming at www.onefc.livesport.tv. The event will be available for purchase at just US$9.99. Really happy for Nobu, it's unfortunate he's running into the buzzsaw that is Ben Askren. I'm just hoping he puts up a better fight than Koreshkov.

Unfortunate for Urushitani and Kojima but One knew well and put them against solid prospects that matched up well with their respective styles. Moraes looks to be the best Brazilian flyweight in next year and Andrew is without a doubt the superior Leone. We'll still get the Urushitani/Kojima rematch in the future, for sure.

Good wins for Kim and Shalorus, too. I expect big things from both in One. I prefer Kim to keep away from Bibiano until next year, that is unless Ueda were to somehow pull off the victory. Shalorus could be a good champion for a few years, even at his age, if Aoki decides to permanently drop to 145 (and I definitely hope not)
