Invicta FC Signs XFC Champion Stephanie Eggink & Alexa Grasso
By Robert Sargent on April 22, 2014
Invicta Fighting Championships continues to replenish its 115-pound division with the recent additions of XFC champion Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink and unbeaten Xtreme Kombat titleholder Alexa Grasso. Eggink and Grasso signed with Invicta FC this past week and both will debut later this year.

MMARising.com confirmed Eggink’s signing with multiple sources close to the promotion on Sunday. She has won three straight fights and captured the XFC Women’s Strawweight Championship in September. Grasso joins teammate and fellow Xtreme Kombat champion Irene Aldana on the roster.

Eggink (4-1-0) has established herself as one of the 115-pound division’s top female prospects during the past 18 months by winning all three of her fights under the XFC banner. She signed on with the promotion in late 2012 and made a successful debut by defeating the more experienced “Hurricane” Heather Clark. This past April, Eggink earned her second straight victory by outpointing short-notice replacement Brianna “Tha Bull” VanBuren in a closely-contested fight at XFC 23. The decision win set up a title fight between Eggink and Angela Magana in the XFC 25 main event.

The September title fight allowed Eggink to showcase her many improvements as a fighter. In the opening round, she maintained a smart strategy that allowed her to keep Magana at bay with jabs. Eggink countered a takedown by trapping Magana in a tight triangle choke in round two. Magana was forced to tap and Eggink walked away with the inaugural XFC Women’s Strawweight Championship. The promotion subsequently lost its U.S. television deal, leaving its American competitors with limited opportunities, and Eggink now looks to continue to climb the strawweight rankings with Invicta FC.

Grasso (4-0-0) has thus far competed as a flyweight in her home country of Mexico, but the hard-hitting 20-year-old is expected to drop down to 115 pounds for her Invicta FC debut. In her December 2012 pro debut, Grasso picked up a brutal 15-second knockout victory. She returned to action five months later and knocked out Lupita Hernandez in just 12 seconds.

On August 31st, Grasso entered a one-night women’s flyweight title tournament at Xtreme Kombat 20. She stopped Alejandra Alvarez in 36 seconds, then posted a hard-fought Unanimous Decision victory over Karina Rodriguez in the tournament final later in the night to become the first Xtreme Kombat Women’s Flyweight Champion. Grasso’s teammate, Xtreme Kombat bantamweight champ Aldana, signed with Invicta FC earlier this year. Both strikers are exciting additions to the Invicta FC roster.

Invicta Fighting Championships 8 is targeted for June at a venue to be announced. The event will likely feature an Invicta FC Featherweight Championship bout between Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and Ediane “India” Gomes. Additional details are expected to be announced in the coming week.
