Cris Cyborg set to make bantamweight debut in December

Ronda Rousey vs. Cris Cyborg might be one step closer to becoming a reality now that the knockout artist is set to make her bantamweight debut.

The Invicta FC featherweight champion will make her 135-pound debut at a yet-to-be announced Invicta FC card in December. Cyborg confirmed the plans to MMAFighting.com following a report by MMAJunkie.

There’s no date or venue for the card yet, which it will air live on UFC Fight Pass.

Unbeaten in MMA since 2005, Cyborg (12-1, 1 no-contest) won the Invicta FC featherweight championship in July of 2013 with a fourth-round TKO win over Marloes Coenen. The Brazilian is also a former Strikeforce champion, having defended the title three times in 2010 and 2011.

When UFC purchased Strikeforce in 2011, Cyborg had a chance to make her transition to the Octagon, but eventually asked to be released from her contract since the promotion wouldn’t open her division, forcing her to fight at 135 pounds. Three years later, the muay thai expert is finally ready to cut down.

I do not care about this division at all. If Cyborg won no one would give her credit. Call her "guyborg" "roidborg"

Neither Cyborg or Ronda fights are interesting. Complete demolitions, and you know if Ronda won Cyborg will never get a rematch even after demolishing the other house wives in the division.

That's why rousey vs Cyborg is so interesting .....

I guess soon the UFC will make the fight soon. Dana will cave soon. If Cyborg is doing this, then it means she is dead serious about fighting Rousey. Plus, now that she is in Invicta, she's in the UFC already. Too easy to make the fight.

It's such an interesting fight because Rousey still has the habit of blocking punches with her face. The fight would probably look like the Hiroko Yamanaka; which, incidentally, was a 16 second win for Cyborg.

Can you imagine the butthurt on sherdog if cyborg won? LOL would be worth signing up.

I still think she is going to smash rousey but will be a good fight. Holly is a good opponent as well for both of them.

For all Ronda's fancy padwork, her evasion and striking defense is embarrassingly poor. Head frozen in motion when she punches, face directly up in the air and no real guard to speak of.

Unless she tightens that up soon I think even a depleted Cyborg at 135lbs would put a pretty decisive whupping on her.

i would watch this match up.. so many variables

I'm eager to see if Cyborg makes 135 pounds in December's Invicta card and how she performs. Definitely setting the stage for a Rousey vs Cybog matchup if it works out. That will be a huge fight if and when it comes off.
