Motion is passed unanimously: Alexander Shlemenko suspended 3 years, fined $10,000 and win over Melvin Manhoef changed to no-contest

Why 3 years? I thought severe punishments just went into effect the last month or two. It shouldn't be retroactive to failed tests from earlier in the year. Is it because Shlemenko isn't a Zuffa fighter? Watch Anderson get off lightly.

No more Shlemenko in the USA, sigh. I'm happy to watch him compete in Europe again but 3 years is too long to rob the audience here of such an exciting fighter.

I really don't understand the 3 year ban. He failed the test in February before the new penalties began and wasn't the first violation 2 years and not 3?

Will leave him in the rankings since he will possibly just fight outside the U.S. We will see. I might drop him a few spots though.

I'm all for punishing repeat juicers but this is bullshit. This sport pays next to nothing as it is and a guy cant sit out for 3 years not fighting. i'd hate to see fighters I like on the shelf that long.

I agree, it's basically a career ender for older fighters like Shlemenko. Hopefully he can go to KSW.
