Global-MMA Ranking Rules

*This ranking system includes fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

*Top level fighters that leave the UFC may be ranked in subsequent rankings.

*Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC will be removed from the rankings.

*Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.

*A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division except under certain rare circumstances where the number two ranked fighter clearly deserves to move into the number one ranking position.

*Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.

*A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent in the rankings after a victory or a loss.

* A fighter can move up a maximum of three spots with impressive victories over a fighter ranked below him; however, there is no limit if the fighter earned a title or a tournament championship with the victory.

* An unranked newly crowned champion who earned a title in a major league MMA promotion can enter the top ten even with a victory over an unranked fighter.

*A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.

*A top ten ranked fighter can become ranked in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight class.

*A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.

*Champions and fighters from prominent promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.

*A fighter will be removed from the rankings if he does not fight for two years.

*Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: 1) championship held in a promotion, 2) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, 3) promotion
last fought in.

*Rankings will be updated every month.

Is there any way you can post a commentary on the changes since the previous month?

I use to do that every month but I have not had time lately.  Maybe in the future I will add that back in but I can't say for sure right now.

I liked it better as well with the commentary updates to explain the changes which was good just to have a quick summary.  Maybe a up and down arrow near the fighter's names showing which fighters moved for now without a commentary might be quick and helpful, as an idea for now.

Arrows are fine too (with numbers hopefully) just something to keep track of the movements.

I can get the arrows working in Word on my PC where I store the rankings but not sure how on this forum.  Even if it is possible, if it can't copy from Word it would be difficult.  May have to think of something else. I do agree though, would be great to show the movements like before with the summary.  May go back to just writing a quick summary of the movements without all the information I use to include.  I may just state fighter moved from number 8 to contenders or something along these lines to keep it quick but informative.

Another option is: 3. Bill (last month 5). 6. Joe (last month 2). 10. Jon (last month same).

Up to you. Just something like that would be nice.

Palhares was just suspended for 2 years.  Not sure if he will appeal or if WSOF will let him fight outside the US or what is going to happen.

I left him in this month but might remove him next month.

Any thoughts on this?  Could lose the number 2 WW but he has had a number of chances.

Paul Harris was on his way to being #1 honestly but yeah all that's out the window, feel free to leave him at #2 and just adjust month by month until the next real #2 appears (Koreshkov after a most likely after a defense against Ward) or Askren gets dethroned.

You're right, he was real close to number 1. There are good arguments that he could be number 1 right now or be number 1 after his next fight.

Yeah, guess I'll wait a bit and see what happens. If it looks like the 2 year suspension will hold and he won't be fighting, I may remove him at some point.

I hope he goes to Rizin and ONE FC....fuck fighting in America whats the point when youre getting cut from the ufc for fucking winning by submission. Aint no one complaining about extra punches on a guy when he's laid out cold

Nice!  Looks great. I will see if I can get that to work in MS Word and on here.

Also, great work as always with the FLWs and Women's rankings.

That's what I am waiting to see, is if an appeal can maybe get this reduced or if he can fight elsewhere outside the US.

I think it sucks Palhares may be out for up to 2 years but he is deliberately holding subs for too long, torquing subs after tapouts, eye gouging,...  There is a history of this, so the suspension is justified.  If he does appeal, his appeal may get thrown out due to this history. I think it sucks but seems right he got suspended.

If he is stuck with this suspension, WSOF could maybe let him go to Japan. Would be great to see him fight but he can't be eye gouging and holding subs longer than he should.

Great stuff. Love to see rankings of the other promotions' athletes. They ALL kick ass, not just Zuffa fighters.

Where will Fedor sit if he looks sharp and picks up his fourth win in a row?

Thanks. Glad you like them.

That is a good question.  If he fights a good fighter and looks impressive he could stand in the top 5.  After the fight, if it is a tough call, maybe we will do another poll on here for Fedor's ranking position.  We have done polls in the past so this may be a good time for another one, depending on how this turns out.
