No Holds Barred: The ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012 and the Future of MMA
Tue May 29, 2012 11:03 pm
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman comments on some of the issues which will be discussed at the ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012 (http://www.onefc.com/events/12-one-asia-mma-summit-2012.html).
This invitation-only event takes place June 1-3 at the Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore, and is hosted by the ONE Fighting Championship. Numerous panel discussions will be held featuring many of the most important people in Asian MMA.
Our commentary addresses some of the issues which are likely to come up at this Summit, including laying a firm foundation for MMA in Asia as a sport, learning from the lessons of the self-destruction and marginalization of other combat sports like boxing, the need to be proactive on issues like fighters' rights and doping, the growth of amateur MMA, the role of the media, and more.

Re: No Holds Barred: The ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012 and the Future of MMA

I hope the future of MMA includes Super Bowl of MMA events with champions from promotions like DREAM, ONE FC, Legend FC, M-1 Global, KSW, and Bellator competing in cross-promotional world title fights at least once every year or two.
It would be sweet to see some cross-promotional super fights (champion vs. champion) at the DREAM Dynamite NYE shows like they did with DREAM vs. Sengoku. That was an amazing event which MMA needs much more of; cross-promotional super events. Even some more occasional cross-promotional super fights would be great like SF and DREAM had going and like EliteXC and Affliction were working on or even like the Eddie vs. Aoki fight we recently saw.
Some ONE FC vs. Bellator, ONE FC vs. M-1, DREAM vs. KSW, M-1 vs. Legend FC cards would be amazing.
Hopefully this comes up at the Summit because this is the absolute number 1 thing MMA needs most in my opinion. From a customer/fan's perspective there is nothing better in my opinion than two champs from different promotions going head-to-head.
Looking forward to listening to this later.
