Jose Aldo Out of UFC 149; Faber vs. Barao New Main Event in Calgary

The injuries just keep on mounting…

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is the latest casualty to the injury bug as he has been forced out of UFC 149 and his main event bout against Erik Koch.

In their place, UFC 148 loses its co-main event as Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao has been moved over as the new main event in Calgary.

UFC officials confirmed the moves on Saturday evening.

There has been no word if Erik Koch will remain on the card against another opponent or not, but UFC officials have stated that another fight will be added to the show in the coming days.
UFC 149 already took two big hits over the last few days losing Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua as he moves over to headline UFC on Fox 4, while Michael Bisping dropped off the card due to injury as well.

Faber vs. Barao will battle in the new main event in a five round fight to determine an interim bantamweight champion while UFC champion Dominick Cruz rehabs from knee surgery that will keep him out until mid-2013.

148 is stacked, so they can honestly afford to lose the Faber/Barao match.
149 has taken some huge hits. Its kind of a blessing in disguise though. While we'll lose Aldo to injury, at least this saves a prospect from being fed to the wolves and moves us that much closer to the FW fight we all want to see in Aldo/Hioki.
