It had been expected that Luke Rockhold would defend his Strikeforce middleweight title against former champ Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza next. But that is not the way it has played out at all. Rockhold will instead defend against Lorenz Larkin in the co-main event of Strikeforce's November 3rd show in Oklahoma City. MMA Weekly has it:

Luke Rockhold will make his next appearance on Nov 3 in Strikeforce and he now has his opponent confirmed.

Rockhold is expected to face Lorenz Larkin at the upcoming card landing in Oklahoma City in November.

Sources close to the fight confirmed that verbal agreements are in place for the bout, which will co-headline the card featuring the heavyweight main event bout between Daniel Cormier and Frank Mir.

Rockhold (10-1) claimed the title from Jacare one year ago and has defended it twice since then, defeating Keith Jardine and Tim Kennedy. Larkin (13-0, 1 NC) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Robbie Lawler in his middleweight debut.

The main event of the card will see former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir face off with Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier.

I hope no one is gonna blame Coker for questionable match making. He had his nuts cut off the instant Dana & Lorenzo sent someone over to take over the SF office and let go a lot of their people. Coker built SF what it became because he and Rich Chou knew how to put together very good, very entertaining matches. And they had twice the finish percentage that the UFC has.

TBH - Zuffa's choice to have no tournaments, or rankings, or anything remotely resembling a competitive sport about their organization made me give up long ago trying to figure out what their doing.

At this point all I want to see is good fights. Striker vs striker... grappler vs grappler is good for me. Poor striker/poor grappler vs poor striker/poor is not. Good bouts between guys that are evenly matched overall skill-wise but specialized in different area is great too. To me Zuffa does a completely shit job in delivering all of the above most of the time.

Saffiedine beat Bowling with a unanimous decision 30-27 sweep of the judges' scorecards on the main card of "Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Tate," which took place at Valley View Casino Center.

"It's something we just haven't sat down to talk about," Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said at Saturday's post-event news conference, a refrain that is common with the promotion with Coker preferring to sit down with matchmaker Sean Shelby in the days and weeks following events to get a handle on what fights to make next.

There are, of course, exceptions to that rule. And one was made on Saturday when Coker said former champ Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza was likely set for a title shot rematch against Luke Rockhold, who took the belt from him in September 2011.

Souza beat Derek Brunson with a devastating first-round knockout in Saturday's co-main event. Coker had been fairly certain going into the fight that an impressive win by Souza would lead to the rematch.

"Luke Rockhold, our champion, has made it very clear he'd like to fight Jacare," Coker told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following Thursday's pre-event press conference. "Last time, he won the fight, but he didn't do it in the style and the manner he wanted to do it. This is a tough fight for Jacare, and if he can get through Brunson, that's a fight we would probably would like to make happen."

Coker was not as sure about the Saffiedine-Bowling winner getting a shot at new 170-pound champ Nate Marquardt – though before the fight he conceded it would be a possibility.

"That's a little bit early," Coker said. "What I like to do is sit back and look at how they perform. They could get injured. They could have a really bad performance, but win. These two guys, I really want to see something special out of them on Saturday night to show us that they want the title shot."

Was Saffiedine's win special enough for Coker and Shelby? Time will have to tell.

Lamas is the logical challenger for Aldo next, since he beat Hioki. But then zoofa and logic have never been bedfellows. Hence why you get meaningless fights like Jones vs. Machida, Silva vs. Belfort and Aldo vs. Florian, and now Aldo vs. Edgar.

Joe Silva and Shelby are basically scriptwriters as opposed to matchmakers. Neither Belfort nor Sonnen have done shit at 205, yet they're considered "contenders" to Jones? One question comes to mind: why doesn't zoofa hire Vince Russo already?

Melendez vs. Healy probably has some sense to it, since Healy's on a winning streak, but the way they've buried Healy on the undercard and now expect fans to buy this fight as something is almost dumb in itself. Casuals are going to ask "who the fuck is Healy?"

M1 gave Miranda a shot at the title coming off a loss. They gave Enomoto a title shot coming off a loss as well. Belfort is a former champ, was a on a five fight winning streak, and had just beat a former MW champ when he fought A. Silva. Machida had just beat a formr LHW champ when he fought Jones. Edgar lost a very close decision and got straight up robbed in his last fight. His wins are far more impressive than Lamas', and he'll give Aldo a much better fight than Lamas ever could.

Jacare should just join One FC. First he was robbed off his title vs Rockhold and now he's been robbed a rematch + title shot to get his belt back.

I never said M-1 was perfect, did I? There are plenty of other organisations that are guilty of giving title shots to guys coming off losses, but none of them scream that they are the "Superbowl of MMA" like zoofa do and that you can't be "world-ranked" unless you fight for zoofa (the so-called "consensus rankings" are a complete farce, but that's another topic).

C'mon son, how the hell does beating Couture in 2011 justify a title shot? Don't tell me that his wins over Vera, a very decrepit Coleman and James Toney actually mean something? Machida was coming off of two losses to begin with (one being controversial). You might as well have said that Franklin should have gotten the next shot at Shogun when he KO'd Liddell back in 2010. But Shogun was injured, so thankfully that fight didn't materialise. Machida only got the title shot because Rashad was injured, but still, it was an unwarranted one nonetheless.

Belfort had never fought at 185 in the UFC when he had gotten a title shot, his only wins at 185 at the time were over Terry Martin and Matt Lindland, one who never was and the other past his prime, and the fight with Franklin wasn't even at 185. If he'd taken another fight or two at 185 beforehand and won, then yeah, I could say he'd get a title shot.

I said that Lamas wasn't going to put up much of a fight to Aldo, but he is the logical choice for contender to that belt, since he beat Hioki. So by your standard, you're calling the UFC's 145 division unimpressive. Giving a guy who's never fought at 145 and coming off of two losses (one of which was controversial, but a loss nonetheless) a title shot is insulting to everyone who's been a mainstay in the 145lb division. And yes, I am very much aware that Koch and KZ are injured.
