Carvalho vs. Pendred, Loughran vs. Newman booked for Cage Warriors 49
Thu Sep 13, 2012 7:50 pm
The Cage Warriors 49 card set for next month in Wales is starting to take shape.
Officials this past week announced a flyweight women's title fight between Rosi Sexton and Sheila Gaff, and now two more bouts have been added to the main card.
Bruno Carvalho (14-5) makes his Cage Warriors debut against Cathal Pendred (10-2-1) in a welterweight fight, while Greg Loughran (22-18) and Tim Newman (8-3) meet in a lightweight bout.
Cage Warriors 49 takes place at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, Wales, and the main card streams live and free on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Carvalho has won nine of his past 10 bouts over a stretch of three and a half years, with his lone loss coming against former DREAM champion and current Bellator fighter Marius Zaromskis. Pendred looks to remain unbeaten under the Cage Warriors banner and is 4-0-1 in his past five fights, including a decision win over UFC vet David Bielkheden in June.
Loughran has rebounded from six straight losses over a two-year stretch to win four straight. His resume includes wins over UFC and "TUF" veterans Andre Winner and Jonathan Brookins. A Bellator loss to Eddie Alvarez started his six-fight losing skid in 2009. Newman returns to Cage Warriors after a 10-second knockout of Grzegorz Tredowski at Cage Warriors 42. This past December, he dropped a unanimous decision to UFC vet Curt Warburton at BAMMA 8.
