Bellator 74 Pulls 190,000 Viewers on MTV2; UFC on Fuel TV 5 Live Broadcast Draws 111,000
Tue Oct 02, 2012 4:12 pm
Bellator Fighting Championships averaged 190,000 viewers for its seventh-season debut on Friday night, while the Ultimate Fighting Championship attracted 111,000 observers during Saturday afternoon’s live broadcast of UFC on Fuel TV 5.
Sherdog.com confirmed the viewership figures Tuesday with an industry source, who also revealed that the UFC on Fuel TV 5 replay, which aired at 10 p.m. ET, eclipsed the show’s live broadcast mark by pulling 140,000 viewers.
Additionally, the UFC telecasts posted household ratings of 0.25 and 0.29, respectively. Likely skewed by the 4 p.m. ET start time, the live broadcast resulted in the smallest viewer turnout for any UFC on Fuel TV event to date, dropping below the previous low of 173,000 viewers set by UFC on Fuel TV 3 in May.
Saturday’s event took place at Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England, and featured six fights on the Fuel TV-broadcast main card. The show was headlined by 7-foot-tall Dutch heavyweight Stefan Struve, who knocked out previously unbeaten Stipe Miocic. The main card also saw hometown favorite Dan Hardy overcome a slow start against Amir Sadollah, as the Brit used a much improved wrestling attack to outpoint “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 winner in the co-main event.
MTV2’s broadcast of Bellator 74 was highlighted by the Season 7 welterweight tournament quarterfinals. Lyman Good, Marius Zaromskis, Michail Tsarev and Andrey Koreshkov all advanced to the tournament semifinals. The card's 190,000 average viewers resulted in more than a 13 percent increase from the 167,000 observers drawn in by Bellator 73, which concluded the promotion’s 2012 Summer Series in August.

Crazy to see Bellator crushing UFC like that. Fuel TV is available in a lot less homes then MTV2 though and the UFC replay did better. Still crazy to see though. Good for Bellator.

To be fair this was a fueltv show (or dead show) at the afternoon and the replay put better numbers. Let's wait when Bellator goes to Spike and UFC do shows on FX head to head like this week and we will have a real idea how big bellator will be or not be. I would like to see Bellator putting the champions more active, their international distribution is becoming bigger too and i would love to see the summer series outside the north america.
