Tristan Johnson-Will Romero rematch added to Score Fighting Series 7
Thu Nov 08, 2012 3:23 pm
A main-card fight has been added to Score Fighting Series' event later this month at the same time a fight has fallen off.
Tristan Johnson (7-3) will meet Will Romero (9-3) in a featherweight rematch, while an ankle injury has forced unbeaten Josh Hill (9-0) out of his bout against WEC vet Rafael Rebello (9-4). Promotion officials recently announced the news.
Score Fighting Series 7 takes place Nov. 23 at Hamilton Place Theatre in Ontario, Canada. The main card will air live on AXS TV.
In addition, promotion officials announced a pair of preliminary-card fights for the show. Middleweights Elias Theodorou (5-0) and Ali Mokdad (6-2) will meet, as will lightweights Rory McDonell (5-6) and Dave Pariseau (8-7).
After a 2-0 start to his Score Fighting Series career, Johnson will look to get back on the winning track after a TKO loss to Rick Glenn at SFS 5 this past August. Johnson, a training partner of UFC fighter T.J. Grant, had a two-fight win streak prior to the Glenn fight, including a unanimous decision win over Romero at SFS 1 in June 2011.
Romero bounced back from his loss to Johnson to win three straight – including a pair of victories under the Bellator banner. He outpointed Daniel Langbeen at Bellator 47 six weeks after his loss to Johnson. The he picked up a first-round knockout win at SFS 2 before a second-round TKO of Matt Veal at Bellator 67 this past May.
Romero, an Ontario native, has been training at the Tristar Gym in Montreal, which has been gearing up for UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre's title fight next week against Carlos Condit.
"I'm very excited about my SFS rematch with Tristan Johnson," Romero stated. "The outcome will not only assure me that I'm the better fighter, but make up for the first match that was mine, as well. He will sleep this time. It won't be left in the judges' hands."
Theodorou is a Bellator veteran who picked up a TKO win at Bellator 64 in April. Under the Score FS banner, he is 2-0 with a pair of unanimous decision victories, including one over Simon Marini this past August at SFS 5. Mokdad just this past month took a decision win against Marini himself at Bellator 76. That erased a two-fight losing streak that included a decision loss at SFS 3 in December 2011.
McDonell will look to snap a two-fight skid, including a unanimous decision loss at SFS 2 to Eric Moon, which was his most recent fight. Though from a record standpoint, a win would get him merely back to .500, he remains a threat on the ground with all five of his wins by submission. Pariseau will be making his Score debut. In March, he got back in the win column with a decision win under the Ringside MMA banner. But he has dropped four of his past six bouts.
