Onlookers described Tank as looking in his best shape and lowest weight in years. Tank controlled the action throughout the first round, charging warpath and securing a takedown. Abbott did some damage on the ground, but referee Cecil Peoples stood them up and restarted, to the disdain of the crowd. Tank again went on the offensive, landing some heavy hands as Warpath seemed comfortable to stand and trade with Abbott. Abbott landed a terrific right hand that buckled the knees of Villareal, but Warpath did not go down and Abbott again secured a takedown, as it appeared to dawn on him That Warpath's chin was terrific. Abbott again tried some ground and pound, but this time Ruben was in a full guard and Tank was only expending energy. Abbott did little as the round ended.

Abbott looked visibly tired on the stool, as this was the first time a Tank fight ever got out of the first round. Rd 2 opened up with a tired but still game Abbott trying to get inside, but Ruben began to land punches that seemed to do damage. Tank went in for another takedown, but this time Warpath caught Tank with an uppercut right as he was shooting in, rocking his head back and surprisingly dropping the UFC legend. Warpath rained blows on a motionless tank as the fight was finally stopped. After the fight, a jovial tank said he was not sure if he would fight again, but stated that he trained seriously for the first time in years, felt great, and had a lot of fun stepping back in the cage. He thanked Warpath as well, and the 2 men shook hands. Tank said as he was leaving the cage that he was "starting to feel a little old".
