Bellator MMA is now four weeks into its eighth season – its first on Spike TV – and the TV ratings are holding steady.

Thursday night’s Bellator 88 accounted for 807,000 viewers for the live broadcast, and another 268,000 on the immediate replay, according to MMAWeekly.com’s industry sources. Not blockbuster numbers, but still respectable, and several times better than the numbers the promotion typically drew on MTV2.

Those numbers also represent a bit of a rebound from the seaon’s low point, Bellator 87, which drew just 705,000 viewers. Bellator 87 also has the distinction of being the only event of the first four that didn’t feature a title fight.

Bellator 88 saw a new middleweight champion crowned when Alexander Shlemenko scored a second-round knockout of Maiquel Falcao to capture the belt vacated by current UFC fighter Hector Lombard.

The title bouts continue next week when bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas puts his title on the line against Marcos Galvao at Bellator 89.

Bellator thread & post activity is on the rise big time at the major UFC forums. A lot of very good comments in with a few jealous Zombies. BMMA just has to continue executing their plan over the next few years and Zuffa will be even less happier about it than they are now.

I just shown my dad Bellator recently (two seasons ago, I believe) and even he thinks it's the superior product.

Saying, "Bellator is so much better than the UFC. These guys know how to fight" LOL

The ratings will go up when the tournament finals come, too. Just don't number the shows because Bellator stopped doing that last year. They emphasize the fights and the fighters, not the meaningless sequential numbering of their shows. Leave that to the anti-union casino owners.

Solid ratings. Good to see they go up with the title fights. There lowest rated show didn't have a title fight.

Not surprisingly, he has no understanding, or refuses to explain, that in almost all sports there is some type of tournament or playoff format, and that the fans pay the most attention to that. MMA and boxing, of course, are exceptions, but Bellator clearly understands this fact.

Do you think that in baseball the fans watch the early season games in the same numbers as they do in the pennant races or playoffs? But zombies like this guy mostly hate real sports, and want MMA to resemble the Chris Benoit leagues.

Get over it. Bellator changed its name from Bellator Fighting Championships to Bellator MMA and dropped the numbering of shows. The rebranding is more accurate and unique than before, and emphasizes fights and fighters. Notice this is not reported in the zombie 'media' which mostly continues to invent fictitious numbers for the shows, just like they pretend UFC is running a sport.

Only the most unprofessional web sites are still using the numbers, like Shitdog and MMA Weakly. Even more sophisticated shills like Iole and Meltzer have stopped using the numbers. If you look for Bellator 89, you will not find it. All you are doing is repeating nonsense from the worst of the zombie sites and promoting unprofessional fanboys.

I personally think the numbers serve their point as a good referential piece for the fans. I was only disappointed in the Pancrase change because I thought the tour names were not only clever and easy to remember, but unique as well.

Nice to see Bolsheet is using Chrome, as it looks like. But you won't find the descriptions of the shows using the numbers anymore, except maybe in your search box or by hovering over an ad.

If you've ever worked in the media, almost everything is numbered, including No Holds Barred. But the shows are publicized differently, and Bellator has caught on.

I wrote this before, but apparently what they are really doing matters little to some people. While they said they understand why some in the media still use the numbers, their Director of Public Relations wrote me that "we are trying to step away from the numbering system in such a high regard." So leave the numbers to UFC on FuelFX 92.

Bellator does not officially use the numbers so the numbers should go. Whatever Bellator titles the event should be the name of the event used.

im not speaking directly to anyone, and im not using any tone neither, if it happens that i have a different oppinion is not my fault....im free to disagree with any of the people here...i only put a point across that in every topic we talk about bellator we dont have to be reminded that they apparently stop using numbers and if i want to used them so we can have a reference, im going to doit...so im not disrespecting no one here, im just saying my point...so we all can get along and have different oppinions...my bad if someone got hurt...

It is NOT about your point! No one is saying you can't have differing opinions. It is HOW you said it... and how you said it to who. Don't tell me it was not aimed at anyone either.
