Injury again delays Held-Jansen lightweight final to Bellator 93
Mon Feb 18, 2013 5:20 pm
An undisclosed injury to Marcin Held has forced Bellator to again delay the finals of its Season 7 lightweight tournament, which was set to take place next month at Bellator 92.
Multiple sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Held (15-2 MMA, 4-1 BFC) now will square off with Dave Jansen (19-2 MMA, 5-0 BFC) at Bellator 93, which takes place March 21 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine.
A replacement for Bellator 92's headliner isn't set.
The tournament final was first set for Bellator 84, but in a bizarre turn of events, officials were forced to cancel the bout when the then-20-year-old Held was not allowed in the casino where the event was held due to his age. The bout was then rescheduled for Spike TV and Bellator 92.
Held bucked odds in the Season 7 competition when he submitted veteran Rich Clementi in the semifinals, which followed a decision win over Murad Machaev in the opening round. The Polish fighter has won eight fights by way of tap-out, including two under the Bellator banner, and carries only two losses in 17 pro fights.
Jansen, meanwhile, submitted Magomed Saadulaev in the opening round of the tourney and earned a ticket to the finals with a split-decision win over Ricardo Tirloni. The Portland, Ore. resident has won five straight bouts following a 1-2 run in the now-defunct WEC.
