Sato Defends Welterweight KOP Title Against Suzuki

Welterweight King of Pancrase Takenori Sato will defend his title against number #1 contender Shingo Suzuki at Pancrase 247 in May.

Sato, now fighting out of Ryo Chonan’s TOKYO TRIBE MMA, will look to make it five title defenses since capturing the belt back in 2011. He was last seen in March, fighting Shooto Pacific Rim champ Akihiro Muyrama to a unanimous draw. Meanwhile Suzuki earned his title shot by winning a four man welterweight tournament, defeating the likes of Eiji Ishikawa and Sojiro Orui.

This isn’t the first time Sato and Suzuki’s paths have crossed. Back in December of 2010 it was Sato who came away with the unanimous decision over Suzuki, Sato would then go to win the Welterweight KOP in his next bout against Kengo Ura.

I just think Sato is far too strong for.Suzuki nowadays. Great grappling and he's been on fire for nearly two years.

Best Japanese welterweight today, IMO.
