Pat Miletich to try his hand at a Senate seat?

The competitive gene is one that stays with you, long after your supposed competitive days are long behind. The scope to which you compete, however, can be multi-faceted, thus is the case with Pat Miletich.

Miletich, who was the most successful mixed martial arts coach during the meteoric rise of the sport, retired from it all right when it was getting big. Taking a commentary position, his ability to speak to the fans using a vernacular that the most casual of fan would understand, likely his best attribute behind the commentary table.

This trait should serve him well in his next endeavor – a candidacy for the United States Senate.

According to the Quad City Sun Times:

Miletich tweeted last week that people could pencil his name in next year for Senate, adding “Bruce Braley cannot win that seat.”

Braley, a Democrat from Waterloo, has said he is running for the seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

In an interview Monday, he said he hasn’t decided whether he will add “Senate candidate” to his resume but he has been thinking about politics for a couple of years.

“A lot of people are fed up with a lot of things that are happening in the country,” he said.

He criticized the influence of special interest, and said he believes in term limits. He also said the government is intruding too much on the private sector and individual rights.

“I’m not a fan of the left, socialist mentality at all,” he said.

Miletich is a registered Republican but said it was possible he could run as an independent.

The 47-year-old also left open the possibility he might even run for a local office, such as mayor of Bettendorf. But then he added, “I never think small.”
