PXC 38 fight card released

Pacific Xtreme Fighting has announced the next card for Guam on August 9, 2013. The 38th card features fan favorites and Japanese talent.

PXC 38 returns to home base for this event, but it’s continuing with its new trend of picking up Japanese talent for the roster. With last year’s top prospects Jon Tuck and Lim HyunGyu moving on to the big leagues in UFC, PXC has stated it is taking up the reins of being a feeder to the behemoth. A few of the latest signees include top prospects Michinori Tanaka, Mark Striegl, and Yusuke Yachi.

PXC mainstay Kyle Aguon rides a 3-fight winning streak with the promotion as he comes into his next fight – and it’s probably his toughest to date. Fans may have seen his next opponent Russell Doane recently lose to champ Michinori Tanaka, but that’s the only time it’s happened. Doane is considered a prospect by Sherdog considering his wins across several promotions and PXC. PXC CEO Joey Calvo stated, “They’re both decent strikers and they both have really good jiu-jitsu and wrestling”, so this match up could be one of the most entertaining of the card.

Rambaa Somdet is a Muay Thai boxing trainer based in Japan and a Shooto Flyweight Champion, undefeated in his last 9 bouts spanning 10 or so years. He’s one of the most entertaining fighters in the ring, sometimes engaging in behaviour that even prowrestlers would applaud (and take notes on). He takes on Robin Catalan from the famous medal-winning wushu and Muay Thai Filipino family Catalan.
While Robin’s MMA action is not on the record, he’s a Muay Thai champ who’s been training wrestling and jiujitsu with his brothers at FCI in the Philippines while preparing for the transition. When Robin won the gold at the 2011 World Muaythai Competition, Von “Badass” Badato commented, “I’m happy Robin is not in the same weight class as me.”

Frank Camacho has fought across a range of Philippine and Saipan promotions and garnered an impressive record of 10-2 before he even turned 20. Doing jiujitsu training in the US set him up with a bronze at the Pan Ams which means a definite ground game has been added to his heavy hands. He’ll face another veteran in Koshi Matsumoto, a Shootist from Kuniyoshi Hironaka‘s Master Japan gym. While Koshi will be more cautious than Camacho on his feet, on the canvas he can wage war with the best of them. It will be interesting to see if Camacho is willing to dive into the water for this one.

Perhaps the most exciting recent pick up by PXC has to be Krazy Bee’s Yusuke Yachi. Yachi shares Shooto Rookie Championship accolades with Bantamweight Champion Tanaka, as well as recently grabbing the Shooto Pacific Rim title belt. At just 23, he most recent 2 wins have been over legitimate top opponents Yuji Hoshino (Striegl’s coach) and Wataru Miki. Intelligent and rangy, he is a legend in the making. Originally it was announced that Yachi would face Striegl in a four-man tournament for the PXC Featherweight Championship, but both fighters sustained injuries. Toby Misech doesn’t seem like much of a challenge on paper but the BJ Penn camp striker showed what he’s capable of when he KOed his last opponent with a body kick.

Submission specialist Josh Calvo makes his second appearance at PXC against Anthony Torres, UFC vet with a win over Pat Healy who is returning to MMA after a four year hiatus. In its second women’s match ever, the very tactical decision-playing Emi Tomimatsu meets professional newcomer Kailin Curran whose amateur record is a starch 4-1-1 and who has only seen the end of one fight. Workhorse Tony Reyes will look to get back in the win column in an uphill battle as he welcomes Shane Alvarez to the PXC cage. Young gun Mikey Taitano will island hop to take on Tyrone Jones, brother of PXCer Trevin Jones. Josh Muna makes his sophomore appearance against what appears to be Ryan Toves jumping up in weight.
