Vinny Magalhaes plans to retire if cut by UFC
Thu Aug 08, 2013 6:18 pm
Vinny Magalhaes practically foretold his demise when he proclaimed he should be cut by the UFC if he lost to Anthony Perosh at UFC 163.
One half has come true as the former ADCC world champion grappler was knocked out in just 14 seconds by "The Hippo" on the FX portion of the preliminary card in Rio De Janeiro this past weekend (Aug. 3, 2013)
The former M-1 Global light heavyweight champion and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Season 8 finalist, left his gloves inside the Octagon after the quick defeat, which is a very foreboding sign, and he tells MSN that he'll call it a career if he's given his walking papers by UFC.
"I have one more fight left in my contract, but we all know that it doesn't mean much and there's a chance that I get cut. Before this fight I said I deserved to get cut if I didn't win. I'm waiting for UFC's decision, anything can happen, but I really don't care, man."
Magalhaes is currently on his second stint with the UFC. His first time resulted in a knockout defeat from TUF season eight winner Ryan Bader, but he made a solid return late last year, submitting veteran Igor Pokrajac with a slick second round armbar. He's since lost a unanimous decision to top contender Phil Davis and of course Perosh. His UFC record stands at 1-4.
The Brazilian transplant explained he had no more financial incentive to work his way back to UFC again should he be released.
"People say that the UFC doesn't pay much to their fighters, but if you look to the other events it's even worse. So if they cut me, I don't see why I should keep fighting in other event. I rather open my own gym than fight for little money. I stopped fighting in Jiu-Jitsu because of the financial part, so it would make no sense for me to return now. If the UFC doesn't renew my contract, I'll stop (fighting)."
If you're Joe Silva, what do you do?

That was such a huge loss for Vinny. Sucks, he's not going to even try to rebound from this one.

As much as we all like to troll Vinny here, let's not kick a man while he's down, this is clearly a shitty situation for him.
With that said. Karma is truly a bitch.
