International major media is now coming to G-MMA for info on Global MMA
Wed Nov 06, 2013 10:41 pm
Good news for the G-MMA movement.
The other day we got an information request from the AFP for info on the Russian Union of MMA & Fedor. The AFP is one of the 3 big news wire services in the world along with Reuters and the Associated Press. The fact that they were looking to us for sourcing information on international MMA is pretty unbelievable to me. I guess we are all doing something right in promoting worldwide MMA and that major world media is looking to us for our knowledge & expertise.
You're all doing a great job! We're making a difference no matter how small.

it was reported on the web in September 2012

Subject: re: MMA official recognized sport in Russia, Russian Union of MMA (Amateur MMA), & Fedor
Hi Nancy,
Here is a few things regarding your inquiry. National & European amateur MMA championships have been happening for a few years. This year the first world championships were held
in St. Petersberg Russia last month.
The Russian Union of MMA and the World Mixed Martail Arts Association are uniquely positioned to become members of SportAccord. They already have an affiliation through FILA and
a number of times large contigents of SportAccord officials from a number of countries have attended Russian Union of MMA and WMMA press conferences and been guest of the organizations.
Fedor is extremely well respected as a sportsman by many in SportAccord and was recently named the official ambassador of Sambo for SportAccord.
I threw a lot of info in here. Let me know if I can be of anymore help.
Please get back to me and tell me about AFP and what you are putting together on this subject.
Thanks,
Dagwood

MMA recognized sport in Russia

Official recognition of mixed martial arts and the creation of the Ministry of Sports MMA Union promises to bring the sport to a new level in Russia.

not far from the truth.Mixed Martial Arts - a relatively young sport, for the past couple of decades, the evolution of unlimited brutal fights in which one could almost everything to clearly regulate the martial art in which the rules are not less than the classical disciplines such as boxing and wrestling.
After winning one of these tournaments in Latvia Russian Sambo Oleg Taktarov went to conquer America. There it two years has gone from a novice to UFC tournament winner and Hollywood stars, but in Russia for the first time introduced the audience to a new sport through a series of cassettes with the best fights in the Octagon, so memorable for fans of MMA with the experience.
In 1997, St. Petersburg businessman Vadim Finkelstein founded M-1, which was the first Russian company conducting mixed fights on a regular basis and at stable understandable rules. In 2003, Finkelstein became the manager of the best Russian fighter and PRIDE champion Fedor Emelianenko in those years that the next seven years, retained the top spot in the list of the best heavyweights in the world. However, up until 2009, Fedor was known in Russia only to a narrow circle of fans. The turning point was the release of the first channel on the air in 2009, a dramatic fight with Fedor his superior in size African-American Brett Rogers. This broadcast watched seven million Russians who were able to note not only the skill of Fedor, but the sport and entertainment as such.
Exit to the big screen has given impetus to the industry of MMA in Russia. Over the past three years, the country was once more ambitious organizations, which, unlike its predecessors, is not limited to one-off show, and try to build its own concept and compete with the pioneers of the M-1. With such
rapid growth was seen in the controversy regarding the new sport. Uneducated journalists and PR people tried to call it the old fashioned way "fighting without rules", not realizing that such stereotypes will never turn a person to sport a wide audience. In the late 90's in the United States is the regulation of the rules and regulations of the athletic commissions allowed to leave the sport on the big screens.Exit to the big screen has given impetus to the industry of MMA in Russia. Over the past three years, the country was once more ambitious organizations that unlike their predecessors were not limited to one-off show, and try to build its own concept and compete with the pioneers of the M-1.
In Russia, this process has stalled for a long time in development, but because the controversy between supporters and opponents of MMA was getting hotter. For example, one odious boxing promoter during a talk show on the channel called on the federal and does prohibit these "fighting without rules", which only promote violence. Another problem is the controversial referee's decisions due to the lack of common understanding of the regulations fights judge's assessment of the conditions and stop the fight. It is overdue creation of a single recognized
State organization able to regulate the conduct of mixed martial arts tournament would allow time to solve all these problems. For the situation when sporting pig is in the register of Ministry of Sports and Mixed Martial Arts is not, you see, is absurd. The first major step of the new organization will be holding Amateur Championship Russia. The soldiers of the 56 regions, many of which are also carried out internal qualifiers, from 28 to 30 September will reveal the best in Moscow, in the course of the tournament on the modified rules.
If you lose anything anywhere, somewhere else will arrive. Having lost a great fighter Fedor Emelianenko, Russia in his face got someone who can promote mixed martial arts to a new level. Immediately after the completion of the legendary fighter's career went into the Presidential Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, as well as leading a new federation - the Union of Russian MMA, who finally made that mixed martial arts was recognized as a sport in Russia and now in addition to the popularity and get more official legalization.
The first major step of the new organization will be holding Amateur Championship Russia. The soldiers of the 56 regions, many of which are also carried out internal qualifiers, from 28 to 30 September will reveal the best in Moscow, in the course of the tournament on the modified rules. To participate in it will be restricted to amateurs, with not more than three professional fights. Finals in six weight classes will be held September 30 in HSS "Friendship" in the show M-1 Challenge 34, and the winners will get their chance to speak at the European Championships in St. Petersburg, and then start and career.
In addition to the championship next weekend in Moscow will host the first Congress of the World Association of MMA, which will discuss the questions on the European Championships in St. Petersburg. Hosting of major amateur tournaments in MMA will make the sport safe and affordable for a wide range of athletes from different backgrounds.

Mixed martial arts gains official recognition as a sport
October 5, 2012 Edvard Serzhan, rbth.ru & Izvestia
Russia has become the first country in the world to recognize mixed martial arts (MMA) as an official sport. The MMA Union, headed by Fyodor Yemelyanenko, has been granted official status and the right to hold championship fights.
In August 2012, the MMA Union, headed by Fyodor Yemelyanenko, received a certificate of state registration that authorizes the organization to arrange MMA tournaments in Russia. Source: Vadim Zhernov / RIA Novosti.
During a meeting of the Russian Ministry of Sport, an agreement was reached to include MMA on the National Sports Register. According to Vadim Finkelstein, vice president of the Russian MMA Union and president of M-1 Global, MMA will likely be supervised by Yuri Nagornykh. Deputy Sports Minister Nagornykh was part of the commission that gave MMA its official status.
“We collected all the requisite documents last year,” Finkelstein said. “We were expecting the commission to convene and decide on the MMA status, and it finally held a meeting. There were about 10 members on the board, and our union was elected out of three MMA organizations to run this sport. In principle, an agreement was reached and there are only some minor issues to address.

In August 2012, the MMA Union, headed by Fyodor Yemelyanenko, received a certificate of state registration that authorizes the organization to arrange MMA tournaments in Russia.
“Now that we have official status, the state will offer us support, as it does all other sports associations,” said Finkelstein. “We are the first country in the world to recognize MMA as an official sport. I believe that many countries will follow suit. We have not only been recognized in Russia, but we have also become part of the international federation.” On Sept. 30, Moscow will host an international congress with participants representing 25-30 countries. On Nov. 14, St. Petersburg will play host to the MMA Open European Championships.
The declared objectives of the union are to develop, promote and organize MMA sporting events in Russia. Unlike professional fighters seen on TV, the tournaments arranged by the Russian MMA Union will require fighters to wear leg protection and gloves, as well as a helmet if desired.

Kamil Gadzhiyev, as general producer of Fight Nights and vice president of the Moscow MMA Federation, believes that state accreditation will take MMA to a whole new level.“This is another big step forward in developing mixed martial arts in Russia,” Gadzhiyev said. “The accreditation of MMA as a sport will bring more people into our sport. All our efforts to promote this sport have been supported by the state. My area of responsibility is Moscow. We will do our best to develop the sport in the region. We will have additional incentives now. I think that, by promoting MMA in the region, we will encourage this sport on a national scale.”
Gadzhiyev also believes that youth MMA must be the next phase in MMA development.
“First, we need to finalize all of the affairs concerning adult MMA and then turn to youth MMA. As of today, most MMA fighters represent various combat schools – wrestling, boxing, sambo, judo, kickboxing, etc. This work has just started and it will bear fruit in about 10 years,” said Gadzhiyev.
“We are planning to build a Martial Arts Academy and start developing youth sports,” Finkelstein said. “We have a goal – to find talented fighters such as Fyodor Yemelyanenko to represent Russia adequately in the international arena. It is largely to his credit that we have gained international recognition.”

FILA sanctioned Olympic-style amateur MMA is already here... A 1st look!
Post by Dagwood Global-MMA.com - Thu Aug 16, 2012 6:47 am
It looks the the fight to control Amateur MMA may have been over for a while. FILA (governing body of Olympic wrestling) has already begun to regulate Amateur MMA with its own set of rules and regulations.
FILA started having sanctioned amateur MMA competitions in the EU over a year ago. They have already set up set up subsidiary to govern international amateur MMA much like it does with its international amateur wrestling federation with its national federations/associations holding national and world championships and their running of Olympic Wrestling.
Fedor was announced president of the new Congress of the Union of MMA Russia with 20 FILA dignitaries in attendance in Moscow in May. Fedor's new federation is aligned with FILA and the International Association of (amateur) MMA Russia. They will be holding FILA's World Cup of Amateur MMA on Nov. 01/12 in St. Petersburg.
So with no further ado here is the look of international amateur MMA and professional MMA development worldwide. NO MORE TUF FIGHTERS EVER HOPEFULLY!!! Our prayers are on by one being answered!!!
- No cage
- No Unified Rules of MMA
- No ring = no outside impediments to affect the outcome of a fight (most fair playing field iMO)

Providing education to the sport (MMA)
dhnet.be - July 07, 2012
MMA (amateur) is now regulated by FILA governing body of Olympic wrestling
BRUSSELS For four days, the Palais du Midi hosted the senior European championships Grappling, Pankration and MMA. Three disciplines of martial arts high level even if the MMA is certainly the best known, but the most spectacular. Often associated with the American Federation of UFC, MMA has an image of ultra-violent sports where blows and blood have harmed a discipline combining the techniques of wrestling, judo, jujitsu, karate, boxing and kickboxing.
At these championships, we're far from that image. Here, no blood, no cage, but a lot of respect. It must be said that the appointment was held under the aegis of FILA, the international federation of Associated Wrestling. This federation has taken the MMA under his wing, to avoid drift. "MMA is one of the only sports to be left with the top professionals, cage fighting, money and all the bling-bling", says Carlo La Torre and Anne Pellaud, respectively Shockx owner of the hall in Brussels and a member of FILA. "We never concern basis. So this is the FILA intervenes. It is there to provide education for the sport. "
Amateur structure implementation in 2008 which now enables the MMA to grow in a more legal, with a different resolution for the UFC and MMA professional. "Arbitration has been redesigned with a points system, but the biggest difference is the appearance of protection. The goal is to preserve the athletes. And if you want one day be in the Olympics, these protections are required, "suggests Anne Pellaud. Without, however, distort the MMA. "Of course it's still a violent sport. It does not make it sterile. "
These European Championships held in our capital were perfectly reflected image. A lot of respect between opponents, but also in controlling the blows, technology and entertainment. Some Brussels, as Claude Herman, have enjoyed the competition. "I bowed in the finals of Pankration, and then I got injured in Grappling. Too bad I was not able to participate in other disciplines, but it was very interesting to rub the European upper crust. This first competition in Belgium will advance the sport in our country. "

FILA - Amateur MMA
Amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that incorporates striking (both standing and on the ground) and wrestling/grappling techniques. As governed by FILA, it is practiced within a safe and regulated environment which relies on a fair and objective scoring system and competition procedures similar to those in force in Olympic wrestling.
Despite its tremendous popularity, MMA is facing various legitimacy issues due to the lack of sanctioning by the national sports authorities and the lack of universal rules that would protect the athletes' physical and psychological integrity. FILA considers that the implementation of an amateur variant that could guarantee a safe training environment and a competition systems complying with the Olympic standards has become an urgent necessity for all athletes wishing to engage in a professional career. Through the mandatory use of protection gear and limited impact rules (especially regarding ground and pound), FILA intends to offer a safe and educational sport that can satisfy athletes with both recreational or professional goals.
With its combination of stand up and ground techniques, amateur MMA represents a great form of self-defense, which is particularly recommended for the training of police, security, and military forces. Amateur MMA is practiced with board shorts and an optional rashguard along with approved protection gear that includes head gear, shin protectors, and gloves that allow grabbing and holding the opponent for a comfortable application of grappling techniques.
Amateur MMA counts 7 weight categories for men and 5 weight categories for women. No absolute category is considered in order to avoid potentially harmful situations.
