No Holds Barred: ONE FC 2 Review, Williams-Ishida, Don King on Tournaments
Mon Feb 13, 2012 10:40 pm
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman draws some of the common lessons from mixed martial arts and boxing by reviewing the ONE FC 2 card and previewing the February 18 Paul Williams- Nobuhiro Ishida fight, as well learning from the teachings of the one and only Don King.
ONE FC had its second outing on Saturday, February 11, with a ten-fight card at the BritAma Arena, also known as Kelapa Gading Sports Mall, in North Jakarta, Indonesia. We discuss the fights on this entertaining show, including the main event and best fight on the card, a nonstop battle where Felipe Enomoto submitted Ole Laursen with a rear naked choke in the second round. We also examine which fighters gained the most from their wins, including Bae Young Kwon, who submitted previously-unbeaten Honorio Banario, also with a rear naked choke, in the first round of their fight. And we discuss some of the other lessons of this show, the good and bad on it, and how this show also advanced the international recognition of ONE FC and many of its fighters.
On Saturday, February 18, a major boxing card will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas, when former world champion Paul Williams (40-2, 27 KOs) takes on Nobuhiro Ishida (24-6-2, 9 KOs) of Osaka, Japan, and IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-0, 19 KOs) fights former world champion Gabriel Campillo (21-3-1, 8 KOs) of Madrid, Spain. This card will be telecast live in the U.S. on Showtime.
On a media conference call, we spoke with both Paul Williams and Nobuhiro Ishida about this fight and the direction of their careers. We also have comments from Don King calling for a light heavyweight tournament and the value of tournaments for boxing, an observation which is valid for all the combat sports.

There´s nothing like a good ol´ tournament. Every fight gets more interesting when you know one fighter will be eliminated.

Williams and Ishida didn't say much, which is why it is at the end of the show. But Don was clear! lol

Great show.
Legend is at it again, date crashing the next ONE FC event. Awesome to hear you bring that up. I wish they would just work with ONE rather than attempting this turf war. ONE FC has the much better vision for the sport which is why I chose to watch their show live and buy the PPV.
