Tumenov returns against Lapsley at FN 40
Thu Mar 13, 2014 8:40 am
After a couple of recent small cards (TUF China's 8 fight offering was the first such occurrence since UFC 72 all the way back in 2007) it would appear that the UFC is attempting to return to their larger offerings with 13 planned bouts for UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. The latest addition to the card will be a fight between two newcomers in need of a win when Anthony Lapsley takes on Albert Tumenov.
Lapsley, a longtime MMA journeyman, entered the octagon for the first time in November of 2013 on the crest of a five fight unbeaten streak and a 23-5 (2 NC) record. "The Recipe" dropped his debut to similarly styled grappler Jason High in a hard fought battle that saw him get positionally dominated in the first and third rounds. The current UFC climate means that he's not in as desperate a position as he might have been even a year ago, but at 34 years old, the time is now if he wants to make some kind of run in the welterweight division.
His opponent will be another fighter coming of his UFC debut, and his first UFC loss. Albert Tumenov was thought by many (myself included) to be a future star in the 170 lb division. He still has that potential, but his debut fight against Ildemar Alcanatara back in February showed some major skill gaps for the 22 year old Russian. He blitzed Alcantara in the opening round, but a fading gas tank and a raw grappling and takedown game saw him fade as the fight went on, for a split decision loss. At only 22 years old this isn't a must win fight for Tumenov, he still has plenty of time to develop, but Lapsley will be another major test of his grappling and one which he'll need to do a lot of training for if he hopes to win.
UFC Fight Night 40: Brown vs. Silva takes place May 10th in Cincinnati, Ohio. Here's a look at the entire card as it currently stands.

Brown vs Silva will be really fun
Lorenz larkin vs costas phillopou will be action packed.
Really like cruickshank since opening up. his striking him vs Erik Koch should be interesting.
Hulk palelei vs ruan potts I'm very eager to see go down.
Horiguchi vs Montague is a great matchup.
Yan Cabral vs Alexander yokovlev is the fight of the night for me.
Don't care about the rest really this card has a lot of interesting matchups looking forward to it.
