On July 5, Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman will settle a trilogy that started eight years ago.
Fitch vs. Burkman 3 has been booked for World Series of Fighting 11, according to WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz. The fight announcement comes a day after WSOF confirmed that Jake Shields withdrew from his fight against Fitch on July 5 due to an injury.
Fitch first submitted Burkman in a UFC Octagon at UFN 4 in April 2006. Burkman then returned the favor in June 2013 with a stunning guillotine choke win in just 41 seconds at WSOF 3. Since then, Fitch is 1-0 in WSOF, while Burkman is 1-1.
Burkman recently had a public dispute with WSOF, however, Abdel-Aziz said those issues are in the past.
"When I called Josh to take the fight he didn't hesitate and said yes right away," Abdel-Aziz said. "He will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. I have nothing but respect for him."
This marks Fitch's third opponent for the card. Prior to getting matched up with Shields, Fitch was scheduled to fight Rousimar Palhares for the WSOF welterweight title, however, Palhares withdrew from the fight to take care of his sick mother.
WSOF 11, headlined by Justin Gaethje vs. Nick Newell for the lightweight title, has yet to find a location. The promotion is expected to announce that news in the coming days. Also scheduled for the card is Melvin Guillard vs. JZ Cavalcante.

I wonder how long Nick Newell can keep climbing the ranks missing one hand? I think he may finally have met his match in Justin Gaethje. It's going to be crazy if Nick manages to submit him like he does to so many of his opponents.

Perfect time slot so as not to compete with the UFC card that evening which starts around 6:30 pm EDT on Fight Pass, then 8 pm on Fox Sports 1 and 10 pm on PPV.

NBC Sports Group and World Series of Fighting (WSOF) have reached a multi-year agreement extending and broadening NBCSG’s exclusive rights to televise the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts promotion’s events through 2017, it was announced Tuesday.
The multi-year renewal extends the partnership, which began with World Series of Fighting’s debut in November 2012, and includes multiplatform rights to the organization’s events, which will be televised on NBCSN and NBC, and featured on NBC’s digital platforms.
NBC Sports Group will televise 14 World Series of Fighting events live this year, including NBC’s first-ever broadcast of mixed martial arts when “World Series of Fighting 11: Gaethje vs. Newell” takes place July 5, followed by a year-end card on NBC on December 27. Additional events will be added to NBC and NBCSN schedules in ensuing years.

To date, NBCSN has televised all World Series of Fighting events live, as well as two World Series of Fighting Canada events and seven unique editions of “WSOF Future Champs” and “Unstoppable: Best of World Series of Fighting.”
“We are excited to extend and broaden our partnership to continue to bring World Series of Fighting’s unique brand of elite mixed martial arts to our viewers,” said Jon Miller, President of Programming for NBC and NBCSN.
World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo, who is also a six-time kickboxing world champion and Hall of Famer added, “We have enjoyed tremendous success as a young company with the great people at NBC, and we are thrilled to be continuing on this journey with them for years to come. World Series of Fighting will continue to put on premier MMA events around the world with some of the world’s best fighters, and we’re so proud to be able to share it with all of NBC and NBCSN’s viewers.”
NBCSN airs the first event following Tuesday’s announcement on Saturday, June 21, when “World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor” takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The star-studded event features a championship triple header, including a main event of David Branch (13-3) vs. Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (27-9) for World Series of Fighting’s inaugural middleweight title, as well as dual co-main events with World Series of Fighting featherweight champion Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (23-3-1) vs. Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn (14-2) and the No. 1 female strawweight fighter in the world and current World Series of Fighting champion Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (17-4), who will defend her belt against Japanese contender Emi “The Kamikaze Angel” Fujino (13-7).
World Series of Fighting will make history on July 5th with its first ever event to air live on NBC. “World Series of Fighting 11: Gaethje vs. Newell” features lightweight champion Justin Gaethje (11-0) putting his belt on the line against the tough and inspirational Nick Newell (11-0). Also on the card, Josh “The People’s Warrior” Burkman (27-10) will face another well-known fighter in Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Jon Fitch (25-6-1). Both Fitch and Burkman boast a win over each other, so this bout is for bragging rights.

MMAmania.com has learned that WSOF will make its third trip to Florida with WSOF 11: "Gaethje vs. Newell" on July 5, 2014, in "The Sunshine State."
It appears World Series of Fighting (WSOF) has found its destination for the promotion's eleventh event and first to be aired on NBC.
WSOF 11 already had a target date of July 5, 2014, but a city and venue had yet to be picked. According to sources close to the situation, the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, will serve as host for the card that will feature a lightweight title fight between champion, Justin Gaethje and Nick Newell.
This will be the third trek to the "Sunshine State" for the company. WSOF 6 took place at The BankUnited Center Arena in Coral Gables, and WSOF 8 took place at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.
The other two fights that have already been announced for the card are the trilogy showdown between Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman and Melvin Guillard making his WSOF debut against Gesias Cavalcante.
The Ocean Center opened in 1985 and seats between 6,176 and 9,440 depending on configuration. Die-hard wrestling fans will be happy to know the third annual WCW "Bash at the Beach" took place there in 1996, the night Hulk Hogan famously turned heel and birthed the beginning of the NWO.
Tickets to go on sale next Saturday, June 7, starting at $39.
MMAmania will have updates on fight announcements for the rest of the WSOF 11 fight card as they become available.

The main card is set, and the prelims have taken shape for WSOF 11, which is set for Ocean Center in Daytona, Fla., on July 5.
A promotion official confirmed the location to MMAjunkie, as well as the card’s final main-card bout and four fights for the prelims.
On the four-fight main card, Pablo Alfonso (9-5) meets Cody Bollinger (15-2) in a featherweight bout. And in the first four fights set for the prelims, Brian Cobb (20-8) takes on Luis Palomino (22-9) at lightweight; Alexandre Pimentel (13-1) meets Jerrod Sanders (14-1) at featherweight; David Mundell (1-0) faces Neiman Gracie (1-0) at a 175-pound catchweight; and Jake Heun (5-3) takes on Kendrick Miree (5-1) in a light heavyweight fight. More fights are expected to be added to the preliminary card.
WSOF 11 will be the promotion’s debut on the NBC network. With UFC 175 taking place the same day, WSOF 11′s main card will air at 4 p.m. ET on NBC.
To headline the event, WSOF lightweight champ Justin Gaethje meets Nick Newell in a title fight. Josh Burkman takes on Jon Fitch in a rematch in the co-headliner. And Melvin Guillard makes his promotional debut against Gesias Cavalcante.
Alfonso brings a three-fight winning streak to the bout, including a first-round submission of former WEC champ Miguel Torres at WSOF 6 this past October. Bollinger made his promotional debut at WSOF 8 in January and took a unanimous decision against Tyson Nam, giving him back-to-back wins.
Cobb will look to rebound from a setback nearly a year ago to Gaethje at WSOF 3, which sent him back to the loss column after a split-decision win over Ronys Torres at WSOF’s debut event in November 2012. Palomino picked up a win in his promotional debut in January when he knocked out Jorge Patino in the second round at WSOF 8. He has six wins in his past eight fights, including a victory over Cavalcante.
Pimentel got his first WSOF win in October when he submitted Jade Porter in the third round at WSOF 6. The Brazilian had suffered the first loss of his career in March 2013 when Rick Glenn knocked him out at WSOF 2. Sanders returns to WSOF after a January win outside the promotion. Nearly a year ago, he took a decision from Jeff Smith at WSOF 3. He will bring a 12-fight winning streak to the fight, going more than three years since his lone loss at Bellator 37.
Gracie returns to WSOF after a first-round submission win in his pro debut at WSOF 5 this past September. The latest in the Gracie family to compete in MMA stopped Darren Costa to start his pro career on the right note. The Florida-based Mundell made his pro debut earlier this year and needed just 17 seconds to knock out Jeremie Cook in regional action in Tampa.
American Top Team’s Heun will move down from heavyweight for his first fight in more than a year. This past June, he was submitted by Dayman Lake at the first event for the short-lived Global Warrior Challenge. That snapped a three-fight winning streak for the 26-year-old Alaskan. Miree, who trains with the Blackzilians camp in South Florida, will move up from middleweight. Nearly a year ago, he suffered his first pro loss when he was outpointed by Krasimir Mladenov at WSOF 3. Prior to that, he had all five of his wins by stoppage.
The latest WSOF 11 card includes:
MAIN CARD (NBC, 4 p.m. ET)
Champ Justin Gaethje vs. Nick Newell – for lightweight title
Josh Burkman vs. Jon Fitch
Gesias Cavalcante vs. Melvin Guillard
Pablo Alfonso vs. Cody Bollinger
PRELIMINARY CARD (MMAjunkie, 1 p.m. ET)
Brian Cobb vs. Luis Palomino
Alexandre Pimentel vs. Jerrod Sanders
Neiman Gracie vs. David Mundell
Jake Heun vs. Kendrick Miree

Abdelaziz said he believes he also has a wealth of talent on the prelims. He said Neiman Gracie is on the card, and that he plans to also have Gregor Gracie fight on the prelims, although he has yet to find an opponent for him.
Abdelaziz's announcement means Daytona Beach will be in for a long day of action July 5. Just 90 minutes after the close of WSOF 11, the Coke Zero 400 is slated to begin at Daytona International Speedway.
“People will already be in town, and we felt with NASCAR there, why not put on an MMA event?” he said. “People that are there watching the race should have a chance to check out our event also.”
And, he said, in the end, he believes it will all make for a great, national showcase for WSOF and Daytona Beach.
“World Series of Fighting and Daytona Beach will get to make history together,” Abdelaziz said. “NBC is the biggest TV network in America, and we chose to do this in Daytona. I can't wait. I'm excited.”

At this time of year, there's a good chance the race could be rain delayed, therefore stranding them at the track. Abdelaziz, you dumb fuck.

WSOF 11, set for July 5th at Daytona, Florida, has already undergone a series of matchmaking changes, and has lost the allure of its original line up, which was to feature welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares defending against fellow former UFC veteran Jon Fitch.
One fight on the main card which is flying under the radar is the opening scrap between former TUF contestant Cody ‘Bam Bam’ Bollinger and Florida’s Pablo ‘The Hurricane’ Alfonso.
Alfonso had been quietly building a name for himself in a career spanning thirteen years, taking in such promotions as Strikeforce and Jungle Fights before the call from WSOF.
"Strikeforce was a dream come true," Alfonso told BloodyElbow. "But WSOF have just signed a deal with NBC and it’s a great opportunity for them and the fighters."
A black belt under No Gi legend Daniel Valverde at MMA Masters in Miami, Alfonso credits the camp with reversing a three fight losing skid.
"I tried a few camps (including American Top Team) and had great training but they weren’t for me. MMA Masters is a family and they give me the confidence and training that gets me wins."
No surprise seeing that MMA Masters counts ex-UFC title contender Ricardo Lamas amongst its pupils.
"Ricardo Lamas is a great fighter," said Alfonso when asked about his training regimen. "He's very strong and well-rounded and his cardio is insane. He never stops going."
Now on a three fight winning streak and coming off the biggest victory of his career, Alfonso has no regrets about his losses, which include current UFC bantamweight Pedro Munhoz (#10 in the 2012 Bloody Elbow Scouting Report)and former WEC 135lb champ’ Chase Beebe.
"They are good name fighters and I was happy to have time in the cage with both."
Despite the loss to Beebe, Alfonso had a chance to redeem himself when he got a call to face Beebe’s conqueror, former bantamweight champion Miguel Torres, a heavy favourite going into the bout.
"I have always been the underdog. I never search for easy fights. Before I was a fighter I went into a gym and said ‘I’m going to be a fighter’. They laughed and beat me up." Alfonso laughed at this memory. "They took me seriously when I kept showing up."
Given just three weeks notice from the World Series of Fighting, it only took a few minutes for the Fort Lauderdale native to show Torres he was a man to be taken seriously, stunning the favourite with a barrage strikes before forcing him to submit to a tight guillotine.
Torres, now on a three fight losing streak himself after tapping to Alfonso, gave his opponent props, but also blamed a change of attire before the bout started for the loss. Alfonso however, didn’t have any bitterness towards Torres for his excuses when asked.
"After a fight you try to understand why it happened (the loss), that’s all.
Torres’ words have done nothing to quell the rise of ‘The Hurricane’, who now finds himself jumping from the prelims to opening the main card of a network televised card.
His opponent, the aforementioned Cody Bollinger (#9 in the featherweight rankings in the 2012 Bloody Elbow scouting report) is coming off a close win over Tyson Nam, but is perhaps most famous for being kicked off The Ultimate Fighter by an irate Dana White for missing weight.
Alfonso sympathises with him for having to make weight on short notice within the confines of the reality show, but also admits it’s a big part of fighting.
"I cut thirty pounds and prepare for over a month. The drop is never easy, but I wrestled in high school and I know what it takes (and) always make weight."
Bollinger may have failed to make a good impression on The Ultimate Fighter, but a 14-2 record and being the first pick for Team Tate gave him significant upside when bartering his contract with World Series of Fighting, allegedly worth six figures. It’s clear that WSOF has big plans for him.
Pablo Alfonso hopes to take that hype from him when they meet on July 5th in a bout to determine the number one contender to WSOF’s bantamweight title.
"Be ready Bollinger. I’m in my prime and a win will get me a title shot."
Like so many other fighters that have yet to hit the big time, Alfonso compliments his pay packet from battling in the cage by working. Yet he has no qualms with his contract.
"I have four fights left on my contract" he said. "I'd like to continue with them after" (his contract finishes)
One fighter who has only has a few fights left on his contract is the highly-touted Nova União product Marlon Moraes. Standing at the top of WSOF’s bantamweight rankings, and their inaugural champion, Moraes is already the subject of speculation from fans who want to see him take on the best in the world in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Alfonso, the former XFC champion at bantamweight, hopes to get his shot before Moraes jumps ship.
"He’s well-rounded, a great fighter and I hope to see him soon."
After his big win over Torres, the Floridian has shown he deserves to be in the discussion. Against Bollinger at WSOF 11, Pablo Alfonso will look to put a stamp on his claims for title contention by being be the most destructive hurricane to hit Florida since Okeechobee.

Perhaps the fourth time will be a charm for former UFC welterweight title challenger Jon Fitch at next month’s WSOF 11 event.
Dennis Hallman (53-14-2) has stepped in as a replacement and agreed to fight Fitch (25-6-1). WSOF officials today confirmed the bout with MMAjunkie following an initial report from MMAFighting.com.
WSOF 11, which marks the organization’s network-television debut, takes place July 5 at Ocean Center in Daytona, Fla. The main card airs on NBC following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Prior to Hallman, Fitch had lost three previously booked opponents, including welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares (mother’s illness), Jake Shields (injury) and Josh Burkman (injury).
Hallman, who’s racked up 70 fights during an 18-year career that’s taken him all over North America and Japan, went 3-2 in a recent UFC stint but was released after missing weight on two occasions. Since then, he’s defeated Dan Hornbuckle and Aleksey Shapovalov on the regional scene to move his current winning streak to three fights.
Fitch, meanwhile, fights for the third time under the WSOF banner. After 18 UFC appearances, Fitch debuted for the promotion in June 2013 with a surprising technical submission loss to Burkman. The longtime American Kickboxing Academy product bounced back with a hard-fought October win over Marcelo Alfaya and now fights for the first time in 2014.
The latest WSOF 11 lineup includes:
MAIN CARD (NBC, 4 p.m. ET)
Champ Justin Gaethje vs. Nick Newell – for lightweight title
Jon Fitch vs. Dennis Hallman
Gesias Cavalcante vs. Melvin Guillard
Pablo Alfonso vs. Cody Bollinger
PRELIMINARY CARD (MMAjunkie, 2 p.m. ET)
Brian Cobb vs. Luis Palomino
Alexandre Pimentel vs. Jerrod Sanders
Neiman Gracie vs. David Mundell
Jake Heun vs. Kendrick Miree

WSOF’s return to Florida next month has had a change to the preliminary card.
Brian Cobb (20-8) is out of his fight against Luis Palomino (22-9) at WSOF 11. Stepping in to take his place will be T.J. O’Brien (20-7). A source with knowledge of the change confirmed the news to MMAjunkie. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the booking.
WSOF 11, which marks the organization’s network-television debut on NBC, takes place July 5 at Ocean Center in Daytona, Fla. The main card airs on NBC following prelims on MMAjunkie.
O’Brien has won back-to-back fights after a two-fight skid that included a submission loss to Gesias Cavalcante at WSOF 1 in November 2012. O’Brien, an Iowa native, is a two-fight UFC veteran who has 19 of his 20 wins by submission, including his most recent two in the first round. In May, he tapped out fellow UFC vet Jacob Volkmann.
Palomino, a Bellator veteran, won his WSOF debut in January when he stopped Jorge Patino in the second round with a knockout at WSOF 8. Prior to his current 2-2 stretch the past 18 months, Peru’s Palomino, a frequent training partner of the UFC’s Ricardo Lamas, won seven of eight fights with the lone loss coming to Bellator featherweight champion Pat Curran.
Cobb was hoping to get back on track following a loss a year ago to Justin Gaethje at WSOF 3. He’s been sidelined since that setback, which reversed a split-decision win at WSOF 1 over Ronys Torres. Now the one-time UFC fighter will have to wait even longer to try to get back in the win column.
