Wsof 12 (official discussion) August 9th
Sun Mar 30, 2014 8:32 pm
After a successful WSOF debut on Saturday, former UFC title challenger Yushin Okami will headline WSOF 12, the organization’s debut event in Japan.
WSOF officials announced the plans following Saturday’s WSOF 9 event in Japan.
According to the WSOF, the event takes place Aug. 2 in Tokyo, though a venue wasn’t announced. The show is expected to air on NBC Sports Network following prelims on MMAjunkie.
An opponent hasn’t been finalized for Okami (30-8), who will fight in his home country for the first time since UFC on FUEL TV 8 in early 2013.
The UFC released the 32-year-old fighter in September following a TKO loss to fast-rising contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Prior to the defeat, Okami had won three straight fights while beating the likes of Hector Lombard and Alan Belcher. However, his price tag and a propensity for decisions ultimately led the UFC to part ways with him.
On Saturday, in his first non-UFC fight in nearly eight years and 19 fights, Okami made short work of heavy underdog Svetlozar Savov. After a series of takedowns and ground-and-pound, he ultimately tapped out Savov with a third-round arm-triangle choke. It was his first submission win since he tapped out Rory Singer at UFC 66 in 2006.

WSOF…
@satoshiishii
Simple tweet by him, but I think he will be part of the event following his fight vs defries!
It would be an incredible adition to the fight card if indeed happens

I wish for Okami/Vasilevsky
Ishii should just stay in IGF if he won't dominate the UFC's heavyweight division.

Luis Palomino (22-9) vs. Lewis Gonzalez (9-0)
Ronny Markes (14-3) vs. Kelvin Tiller (6-0)
Elvis Mutapcic (13-3) vs. Krasimir Mladenov (11-0)
Alexis Vila (14-4) vs. Brandon Hempleman (9-2)
Pretty weak card IMO. This card really could've used Okami.

not the best card but tiller is a good prospect 3-0 in bellator.....mladenov is 11-0 if he beats elvis he should face the winner of okami vs branch and vila even at 43 is always solid...well see

The scouts must see something special in Tiller because on paper, Markes is an awful stylistic match-up for him.
Mladenov/Mutapcic is pretty good but Mladenov isn't exactly the most exciting fighter around.
I'm glad Vila is getting a television spot. Great fighter, I just wish he'd fight at 125.

The loss of a fighter from next month’s WSOF 12 lineup has prompted a lineup shuffle, and the organization is now searching for a new light heavyweight to join the card.
WSOF officials today told MMAjunkie that unbeaten middleweight Krasimir Mladenov (10-0) has suffered an injury and pulled out of the event, prompting some last-minute changes.
The event, WSOF 12, takes place Aug. 9 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The main card airs oN NBC Sports Network following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Mladenov initially was slated to fight middleweight Elvis Mutapcic (13-3). However, Mutapcic will remain on the card and fight Kelvin Tiller (6-0) in a catchweight bout.
Now, officials are looking for a replacement for Tiller, who initially was slated to fight UFC vet Ronny Markes (14-3), who’s moving from middleweight to light heavyweight, on the WSOF 12 card. Markes, who fought his final three UFC bouts at 185 pounds, wants to fight at 205 pounds for the bout, so the organization is searching for a new light heavyweight.
The latest WSOF 12 lineup now includes:
MAIN CARD (NBC Sports Network, 10 p.m. ET)
Lewis Gonzalez vs. Luis Palomino
Elvis Mutapcic vs. Kelvin Tiller
Brandon Hempleman vs. Alexis Vila
Ronny Markes vs. TBA

A bantamweight matchup has been added to next month’s WSOF 12 event, as Bryson Hansen (7-1) meets Matt Sayles (2-0).
WSOF officials recently announced the addition of the new contest, which will kick off the five-fight NBCSN-broadcast main card at WSOF 12, which takes place Aug. 9 at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
“Bryson Hansen looked fantastic in his World Series of Fighting debut, so we’re excited to have him back in the decagon so quickly and see if he can turn in another performance like that,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo stated. “On the other side of the cage is Matt Sayles, who has been absolutely destroying his competition early on in his career and already looks prepared for a step up in quality. This fight should kick off our broadcast with real fireworks.”
Hansen made his WSOF debut in March and needed just 46 second to score a TKO win over Sean Cantor. It was the Xtreme Couture fighter’s fifth knockout win among his seven career victories. He now faces Sayles, and Alliance MMA product who has made quick work of both of his professional opponents to date, with his first two career wins coming in 75 seconds or less in each outing.
Preliminary matchups are expected to be announced soon. For now, the WSOF 12 lineup includes:
MAIN CARD
Lewis Gonzalez vs. Luis Palomino
Ronny Markes vs. opponent TBA
Elvis Mutapcic vs. Kelvin Tiller
Brandon Hempleman vs. Alexis Vila
