Brandon Vera Set to Fight Chi Lewis Parry for ONE Championship Heavyweight Title The fight will take place at “ONE: Spirit of a Champion,” which is set for the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. It will pit the Fil-Am UFC veteran against an English fighter who earlier this year reached the final of a Glory four-man tournament

Vera (13-7-0-1) is best known for eight-year stretch in the UFC in which he took on some of the organization’s biggest names including Frank Mir, Tim Sylvia, Fabricio Werdum, Randy Couture, Jon Jones and Mauricio Rua.

Brandon VeraThe 37-year-old signed for ONE Championship last year and made his promotional debut in December, defeating Igor Subora by first-round knockout. Vera has spent much of his career at 205 pounds, but is now competing exclusively in the heavyweight division.

Parry (6-0-0-1) is undefeated in MMA, but hasn’t fought since last July, although he has taken three kickboxing bouts during this period. The former pro basketball player stands sxi-foot-nine-inches tall and is coming off a first-round win over stand-up specialist Alain Ngalani.

I think this is a good title fight considering location and what the currently have on their roster.

Parry will knock Vera out in the second or third, then Cheng will get his shot in Nanjing.

In addition to the main event, five exciting new bouts featuring local and international MMA athletes have also been announced. Woah. Angela Lee is fighting again? She just fought last month! Good for her, I guess.

After multiple requests made by ONE Officials directly to Chi Lewis Parry and his Manager over the last few weeks, Chi has failed to submit his m...edical results and his drug tests for the fight this Friday. Additionally, he decided not to board the plane departing from London to Manila. He will not be fighting this Friday.

The next top heavyweight contender, Paul Cheng will be stepping in for the World Championship fight against Brandon Vera.

Sounds like he wussed out from the initial reports.

Odd for a fighter to drop out of a fight like that. Must have really blown drug test results, I would have guess.

According to Parry, ONE had planned to put Cheng in the fight all along..

Rich Franklin made a statement on facebook basically saying that Chi and/or his management were not communicating with ONE and Hume was getting worried so that's why they brought in Cheng.

I remember watching Yang Jian Bing compete in ONE's flyweight tourney. Only 21 years old which is ridiculous, that kid's team/trainers were not looking out for him properly. R.I.P.

In regards to the event that's a huge upset win for Australia's Reece McLaren over Striegl, did not expect that.

Yeah, weight cutting is a problem that needs to be addressed in a serious manner.

And yes, this is a sad situation.

There have been a number of college wrestlers who died cutting weight.

D1 college wrestling has moved to 1-hour weigh ins.

I have one friend in D1 college wrestling right now.. he doesn't cut weight.

No need to throw blame around too much though.

It is unfortunate.

And weight cutting is a part of combat sports.

These guys took it too far, and this is what has the potential to happen when you do that. (It is rare, but it does happen.)

The guy was probably wearing rubber suits, and spending too long in the sauna.

Cui is not without blame. He is the captain of the ship.

Denigrating a fighter for missing weight last show, and now trying to put on a face for this one, seems a bit ironic at best.

Yeah it is very tragic of what happened me i think there should be a limit on how much weight a fighter cuts .That would vary from person to person though. Some cut over 13 kg 30IB

Yeah, it's a big issue.

The WBC in boxing has fighters weigh in several times leading up to fights.

It is of course a corrupt organization, but it is a good idea.

It's probably partly to protect them from having fighters miss weight, but it is also a potential idea for how to have fighters manage weight cuts correctly.

Shame the fight didn't happen, but Vera finished his actual fight like a boss. 26 seconds YEAH!
