Re: WSOF 8: Gaethje vs. Patishnock Results & discussion

World Series of Fighting lightweight Justin Gaethje (10-0) awaits a new opponent, as Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante (18-7-1) has been forced to withdraw from a planned lightweight title fight at WSOF 8.
MMAjunkie today learned from sources close to the promotion that Cavalcante has suffered an injury in training and has been scratched from the event just one day after it was announced.
Gaethje now awaits a new opponent for a five-round fight with WSOF’s inaugural lightweight belt on the line.
World Series of Fighting 8 is scheduled for Jan. 18 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. In addition to the championship fight, Anthony Johnson faces Mike Kyle and Cody Bollinger meets Tyson Nam.
Gaethje is an undefeated prospect who fights out of Colorado’s Grudge Training Center. Since making his professional debut in August 2011, Gaethje has rattled off 10 straight wins, including nine by way of stoppage. Gaethje has already competed three times for WSOF, earning wins over Dan Lauzon, Brian Cobb and Cavalcante, who he downed via doctor’s stoppage when a cut ended their first meeting in less than three minutes.
Meanwhile, “JZ” Cavalcante also boasts three WSOF fights, including wins over Tyson Griffin and T.J. O’Brien sandwiched around the disappointing loss to Gaethje. With more than nine years of professional experience, Cavalcante has also fought under the Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 HERO’s banners.

JZ Cavalcante's loss is Lewis Gonzalez's gain.
Just days after announcing that Justin Gaethje would fight Cavalcante for the inaugural World Series of Fighting lightweight title on Jan. 18, the promotion informed MMAFighting.com that Gonzalez has replaced Cavalcante due to an injury suffered in training.
WSOF president Ray Sefo said Gonzalez and Gaethje have verbally agreed to the new title fight. No details were available about Cavalcante's injury, which was first reported by MMAJunkie.com, but he is expected to be out for a considerable amount of time.
The undefeated Gonzalez (9-0) defeated veteran Antonio McKee in his WSOF debut in August. Seven of his nine pro wins have come via TKO or submission.
Gaethje (10-0) is 3-0 in WSOF, most recently defeating Dan Lauzon via second-round knockout.
WSOF 8, which will be headlined by the 155-pound title fight, will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and the main card will air on NBCSN. Also announced for the card are Anthony Johnson vs. Mike Kyle and Tyson Nam vs. Cody Bollinger.
WSOF returns this Saturday night on NBCSN with a card headlined by Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Lance Palmer for the promotion's inaugural featherweight crown.

The first women’s strawweight champion in World Series of Fighting history will be crowned on Jan. 18 as Jessica Aguilar meets Alida Gray for the division’s inaugural belt at World Series of Fighting 8.
Additionally, another main-card matchup has been added as Cody Bollinger meets Tyson Nam.
MMAjunkie today confirmed the bookings with World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo.
World Series of Fighting 8 is scheduled for Jan. 18 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. In the evening’s main event, Justin Gaethje (10-0) will take on Lewis Gonzalez (9-0) for the company’s first lightweight belt.
Aguilar, the world’s top-ranked women’s 115-pounder, signed with World Series of Fighting in November and will make her promotional debut in the title fight.
She is currently 11-1 in her past 12 appearances, including a pair of high-profile wins over all-time great Megumi Fujii. The 31-year-old American Top Team fighter fought six times under the Bellator MMA banner but was recently released from the organization when they elected to stop promoting women’s fights. During that time, she was also a semifinalists in company’s Season 3 115-pound women’s tourney.
Meanwhile, Gray is an undefeated prospect who has rattled off four stoppage wins since turning pro just six months ago. Included in that run is a devastating one-punch knockout of Soannia Tiem. Check out the gif below, courtesy of The Nosebleeds, for the devastating finish.
The 36-year-old Gray was an Olympic judo alternate in 1996 and admits she looked up to former world champion AnnMaria de Mars, mother of current UFC champion and Olympian Ronda Rousey. Gray is currently ranked No. 10 in the world in the Unified Women’s Mixed Martial Arts Rankings.

Interesting fight but I think Aguilar's championship caliber experience might be too much.

I sure hope wsof can bring in some woman with more then 4 fights to challenge the winner.
This is why wsof should stay out of wmma Aguilar is spectacular but she'd not going to cement any legacys in wsof.

Share this image:The main card for World Series of Fighting 8 now is set with the addition of a fifth bout to the lineup.
Valdir Araujo (14-4) will take on Tyler Stinson (25-9) in a welterweight bout on the card. A person with knowledge of the fight card confirmed the fight booking to MMAjunkie. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the bout has not yet been announced by the promotion.
Both Araujo and Stinson will be making their debuts with the promotion.
Featuring a Justin Gaethje vs. Lewis Gonzalez headliner with the promotion’s inaugural lightweight title on the line, World Series of Fighting 8 takes place Jan. 18 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The main card airs live on NBC Sports Network following prelims that will stream on MMAjunkie.
Stinson has won back-to-back fights after a two-fight skid in Strikeforce that saw him drop decisions to Tarec Saffiedine and Jordan Mein, both of whom went on to the UFC. The Grudge Training Center-based Stinson has seen action for Bellator and Titan Fighting Championship, as well, and has 23 of his 25 career wins by stoppage with 17 knockouts.
Araujo, who has 11 of his 14 career wins by stoppage, has won three straight and six of his past seven. His resume includes a 1-1 Bellator record. In 2013, after a 25-second knockout loss to current WSOF welterweight Marcelo Alfaya in January, Araujo won three straight, all by finish, to wrap the calendar year at 3-1. It will be a home fight for the Miami-based fighter, who turned 29 earlier this month.
With the addition, the latest WSOF 8 card includes:
MAIN CARD

Cody Bollinger vs. Tyson Nam

An injury has forced World Series of Fighting to change its main event on Jan. 18.
Justin Gaethje will now face Richard Patishnock for the inaugural WSOF lightweight title after Lewis Gonzalez suffered an injury, the promotion's executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz informed MMAFighting.com on Wednesday.
Patishnock (6-1) is 2-0 under the WSOF banner, defeating Igor Gracie at WSOF 2 and Gregor Gracie at WSOF 5. He was scheduled to fight Luis Palomino on the card, and now the promotion is seeking a new opponent to fight Palomino.
Gaethje (10-0) is 3-0 in WSOF, most recently defeating Dan Lauzon via second-round knockout at WSOF 6. The 25-year-old is considered to be one of the organization's rising stars.
WSOF 8, which will be headlined by the 155-pound title fight, will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and the main card will air on NBCSN. Also announced for the card are Anthony Johnson vs. Mike Kyle, Jessica Aguilar vs. Alida Gray for the inaugural women's strawweight title and Tyson Nam vs. Cody Bollinger.

Re: WSOF 8: Gaethje vs. Patishnock Results & discussion
Sun Jan 12, 2014 5:09 pm
Surprising turns was the name of the game in 2013 for top ranked women’s strawweight fighter Jessica “Jag” Aguilar.
Firstly, her home promotion for the last couple years, Bellator, decided to cease all women’s MMA within the company, immediately making Aguilar one of the sport’s top free agents. That was followed by Aguilar’s decision to sign with the World Series of Fighting, a promotion that had never hosted women’s MMA in its brief history.
All the while, Aguilar finished her year unblemished, raising her current winning streak to seven and raising her overall record to 16-4.
“I didn’t fight too much, but I defended my ranking twice, in March and then again in October,” said Aguilar. “Bellator ended up eliminating the women’s division, so I was sad about that, but I was happy just to know there were new opportunities coming (with the WSOF).”
Looking back at her time in Bellator, Aguilar is saddened they shuttered their women’s divisions, but holds no grudge against them for their decision.
“It wasn’t even about being disappointed with them,” she said. “Bellator was great to me.
“They gave me an opportunity, so I’m grateful to them. Of course I am sad because I had been with them for a while and we had grown together, but they decided to go a different route. We finished our contract on good terms and still have a great relationship with them.”
Aguilar is looking forward to helping grow WSOF’s women’s division and become the foundation they can build upon in 2014.
“Any company that gives me the opportunity to showcase my skills, treats me well, and allows me to showcase my skills, I’m very passionate about it,” she said. “I’m going to represent and give 100 percent and help them out as much as possible.”
Aguilar’s first bout for the company will come at their Jan. 18 show in Hollywood, Fla., when she takes on undefeated prospect Alida Gray (4-0) for the company’s inaugural 115-pound women’s championship.
“Alida is a very tough opponent,” said Aguilar. “She likes to bang and I expect her to come out really strong.
“I’m training really hard with the American Top Team for everything and I’ll be ready for whatever she brings. I’ll be ready to bang too and it’s going to be an exciting fight.”
Looking ahead to 2014, Aguilar’s task is laid out before her: win the WSOF championship and continue to be one of the best female fighters in the world.
“My first goal is to get that first WSOF title on Jan. 18 and continue being the face of the strawweight division and show the world why I’m the best in this division,” she said. “That’s my goal in 2014 and I’m going to be happy to finally have a world title around my waist.”
