IGF begins MMA-only event

At a press conference today, Antonio Inoki of pro-wrestling-based Inoki Genome Federation (IGF) announced that a new series of MMA rules-only events will be held under the promotion’s banner. The events are said to have a tertiary broadcast in place.

The new series of MMA rules events will be called Inoki Genome Fight, or most commonly IGF, as a differentiation from the existing professional wrestling rules series which will be referred to as Genome. The first MMA event, IGF 1 (official sponsored name “FieLDS HEIWA presents INOKI GENOME FIGHT 1″) will be on April 4, 2014 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. Satoshi Ishii announced he’s fighting Phil De Fries on the event. A terrestrial broadcast in Japan was also announced.

IGF 2 in will be held in Tokyo in August, and the Genome series will return on July 13 in Fukuoka, and October 13 in the Aichi Prefecture. A new years’ eve event for both series to be shown in tandem will be planned for the changeover to 2015

this will be cool.

JMMA could use a few more solid orgs imo.

Would be cool to see IGF land a deal on AXS eventually.

Cool! I enjoyed the NYE event he put on. Hopefully they continue to build on that and make some waves in the JMMA scene.

They have ring and soccerkicks but I don´t know about stomps and knees.

IGF allows soccer kicks, stomps, and knees and is in a ring.

NYE show was great and well produced. Best MMA news I have seen in a while!
