Legacy FC 31 on June 13 official discussion Empty Legacy FC 31 on June 13 official discussion

Legacy Fighting Championship will return in June, and will touch down in Louisiana for the first time.

Legacy FC 31 is set for June 20 and will feature a bantamweight main event between a pair of unbeaten fighters in Thomas Almeida (16-0) and Aaron Phillips (7-0).

Legacy promotor Mick Maynard confirmed the event and headliner to MMAjunkie.

The event will take place at Horseshoe Casino in Shreveport, La., with a main card airing on AXS TV. Just this past Friday, Legacy put on its first event in New Mexico, headlined by Holly Holm’s women’s bantamweight title win vs. Juliana Werner. Prior to Friday’s show in Albuquerque, all of Legacy’s shows but one had taken place in Texas (Legacy FC 29 was in Oklahoma).

Almeida, from Brazil, returns to Legacy following his second appearance for the promotion, a first-round TKO of George Pacurariu at Legacy FC 26 in December. In March, Almeida fought in Brazil, where he scored a fourth-round TKO against Vinicius Zani on a regional show in Brazil.

All of the 22-year-old prospect’s 16 career wins have come by stoppage with a dozen knockouts and four submissions. And he’s been busy in his young career, going 8-0 in 2012 and 5-0 in 2013.

Phillips, a Louisiana native, will fight in front of his home state’s fans in his Legacy FC debut. The 29-year-old went 4-0 in 2013 with three stoppage wins, all for regional promotions in Louisiana. In February, he took a split-decision from Tyler Shinn at a C3 Fights event in Oklahoma. Phillips trains with former UFC fighter Tim Credeur at Louisiana’s Gladiators Academy.

The Legacy FC 31 event in June will have a championship doubleheader, which includes an Olympic gold medalist in the main event.

Despite some weight issues at 125 pounds, undefeated MMA fighter and former amateur-wrestling standout Henry Cejudo (6-0), who won an Olympic gold medal in 2008, will meet Damacio Page (17-9) for the organization’s vacant flyweight title, Legacy FC promoter/owner Mick Maynard told MMAjunkie.

Additionally, William “Bubba” Bush (7-2) will put his middleweight title on the line against challenger Roger Narvaez (6-0) in the co-headliner.

Legacy FC 31 takes place June 13 at Houston’s Arena Theatre. The main card airs on AXS TV.

Despite his in-cage success, Cejudo has had some issues making weight in his MMA career. He came in heavy for his most recent win, a victory over Elias Garcia in January. He was also suspended for initially no-showing the weigh-ins, which followed a canceled November fight after he also failed to show for those weigh-ins. However, he still carries a perfect 6-0 mark that includes a pair of recent Legacy FC wins.

The 27-year-old now meets Page, a UFC and WEC vet who’s 2-1 since a losing skid in MMA’s biggest promotion. Under the Legacy FC banner, though, the 31-year-old has picked up knockout wins over Patrick Ybarra and Matt Lozano.

Bush, meanwhile, has spent his entire career in the Legacy FC promotion, where he’s won three straight bouts and five of his past six. In seven career wins, the 28-year-old has six stoppages (four knockouts), including a February title win over Rakim Cleveland via second-round submission.

Bush now takes on the undefeated Narvaez, who recently made his promotional debut with a split-decision victory over Hayward Charles. The 30-year-old opened his pro career with five stoppage victories, four of which came in the first round.

Excellent fight. A win for Cejudo should be enough for a UFC contract. More importantly, a win would put him in contention for a spot in our GMMA Top Ten.

Caio Machado (4-0) has stepped in June’s Legacy FC 32 headliner and will now fight for the organization’s vacant bantamweight title.

Legacy FC promoter/owner Mick Maynard told MMAjunkie that Machda has replaced Aaron Phillips (7-0) and will now fight Thomas Almeida (16-0) for the vacant belt.

Legacy FC 32 takes place June 20 at Horseshoe Bossier City Hotel and Casino in Bossier City, La. The main card airs on AXS TV.

The belt was recently vacated when Matt Hobar, who won the title this past July, recently signed with the UFC.

Machado turned pro in 2011, won his first three fights (two via stoppage) and then signed with Legacy FC. In his promotional debut in January, the Brazilian scored a decision victory over then-undefeated Domingo Pilarte.

Almeida, one of the sport’s more promising 135-pound prospects, looks for his 17th consecutive victory and his third straight win with Legacy FC. The Brazilian’s past 10 victories have come via knockout, and he owns 16 stoppages in 16 career wins.

The full Legacy FC 32 lineup includes:

MAIN CARD (AXS TV, 10 p.m. ET)

Thomas Almeida vs. Caio Machado – for vacant bantamweight title
Kyle Bradley vs. Derrick Krantz
Klayton Mai vs. Matt Schnell
Quentin Henry vs. Nicholas Jackson
Evan Cutts vs. Allen Smith
Jeff Humphries vs. Sky Moiseichik
PRELIMINARY CARD (Untelevised, 8 p.m. ET)

Scott Ingram vs. Tony Kelley
Brandon Wayne Martin vs. Jovon Roberson
John Clay vs. King Gladney

Next month’s Legacy FC show has lost a title fight and its main event.

Former amateur-wrestling standout Henry Cejudo (6-0) is out of his fight for the promotion’s vacant flyweight title against Damacio Page (17-9) at Legacy FC 31. Legacy promoter Mick Maynard on Tuesday confirmed the news to MMAjunkie, saying “personal reasons” were behind Cejudo stepping out of the fight.

Instead, Page will remain on the card and will fight Elias Garcia (4-1) in the co-main event – though the flyweight title no longer will be on the line. The previous co-feature, a middleweight title fight between champion William “Bubba” Bush (7-2) and challenger Roger Narvaez (6-0), will be elevated to the headliner.

Legacy FC 31 takes place June 13 at Houston’s Arena Theatre. The main card airs on AXS TV.

Page, a UFC and WEC vet who’s 2-1 since a losing skid in MMA’s biggest promotion has picked up knockout wins over Patrick Ybarra and Matt Lozano for Legacy. Garcia is coming off a decision loss to Cejudo at Legacy FC 27, the first setback of his professional career.

Cejudo, who won an Olympic gold medal in wrestling in 2008, came in heavy for his most recent win, a victory over Garcia in January. He was also suspended for initially no-showing the weigh-ins, which followed a canceled November fight after he also failed to show for those weigh-ins. However, he still carries a perfect 6-0 mark that includes a pair of recent Legacy FC wins.
