Re: Glory 17 Los Angeles And Last Man Standing - 06.21.14 (OFFICIAL DISCUSSION AND RESULT)
Sun Apr 13, 2014 6:31 pm
GLORY has announced GLORY 17 Los Angeles today. GLORY 17 Los Angeles is scheduled for June 21st at the Forum in Inglewood, California. No bouts have been announced just yet, but tickets are on sale starting on April 16th at the box office or ticketmaster.com.
This will be GLORY's first trip back to Los Angeles since GLORY 10 last year, which saw Joe Schilling conquer the Middleweight division in the Middleweight tournament, including a big win over Artem Levin. If I were a betting man I'd probably bet some money on Joe Schilling being on that card, but that is of course nothing official.
When it comes to GLORY events, semantics are vital. Numbered GLORY events have been airing on Spike TV and television around the world while the undercards are the GLORY SuperFight Series. When it comes to GLORY 17 Los Angeles things are going to be a little bit different. GLORY 17 Los Angeles will air on Spike TV, like usual, but this time around that will not be the main attraction. Oh no.
The main attraction?
The GLORY Last Man Standing Middleweight tournament on PPV. We told you that GLORY PPV was coming and here it is. This will be an 8-man tournament, which GLORY has announced six of the names thus far. Those names are as follows; Joe Schilling, Simon Marcus, Alex Pereira, Bogdan Stoica, Melvin Manhoef and Wayne Barrett. The big surprise is the inclusion of Simon Marcus, who has a long history with GLORY 10 Middleweight tournament winner Joe Schilling. The new names are Bogdan Stoica, brother of Andrei Stoica and Melvin Manhoef. We all know Melvin.
This is a huge deal, obviously, we'll have more information when it becomes available.

Joe Schilling vs Wayne Barrett, Glory 12 - Glory Sports International
Glory has announced their PPV debut. On June 21, they will host Last Man Standing, a one night 8 man Middleweight tournament. Get the details here.
At this past weekend's Glory 15 Istanbul show, Glory made a big announcement about their summer plans.
On June 21, Glory will make their PPV debut. The show, titled "Last Man Standing" will be live from Los Angeles, and will feature a one night 8 man tournament in the Middleweight division. The following six names were announced as tournament participants:
Joe Schilling - Ranked #2 in Glory, Schilling won last year's MW tournament at Glory 10, defeating favorite Artem Levin in the finals.
Wayne Barrett (#4) - Barrett is only 4-0, but already holds a win over Schilling, defeating him in a great fight at Glory 12 New York.
Alex Pereira (#6) - Pereira won the MW contender tournament at Glory 14 Zagreb to earn this spot.
Melvin Manhoef (Debut) - Any kickboxing fan (and most MMA fans) know Manhoef. The cult favorite makes his Glory debut here.
Simon Marcus (Debut) - Arguably the best MW in the world, Marcus holds wins over Artem Levin and Schilling, both under Muay Thai rules.
Bogdan Stoica (Debut) - A popular fighter from Romania, Stoica has fought mainly in SuperKombat, and is the brother of Glory 15's Andrei Stoica.
The final two spots are yet to be announced. Hopefully they get Levin in there, as he is a must. Steven Wakeling would also round out the tournament nicely. The tournament is likely to crown a Middleweight champion, though that has not yet been made official.
Interestingly, according to the Glory 15 announcement, the PPV will take place immediately after Glory 17, a separate show that will presumably air on Spike. This is not entirely unique for Glory, as their shows always included one portion branded as the Superfight Series, and another branded as the numbered Glory show, but it will be interesting to see exactly how they present both "Glory 17" and the "Last Man Standing" PPV on the same night. No word yet on the PPV cost either.

the Ppv looks to be after glory 17 they are 2 different events, glory 17 in spike and the mw gp on ppv!

Im not entirely sure on how this is supposed to be broadcasted.
Ive assumed that what we'll get on Spike will be comparable to what we havent been getting due to the Super Fight Series. Then the PPV portion will be quarterfinals, semis, few superfights, then the championship.

Glory has just wrapped up their latest show, Glory 16 Denver, but already we are looking ahead to their next outing. The next time Glory takes to the ring will be Saturday, June 21 for their loaded show in Loa Angeles. That show will feature 3 parts - a shorter Superfight Series, Glory 17 live on Spike, and the Glory Last Man Standing PPV. As we previously reported, the PPV will feature a one night 8 man Middleweight world title tournament, plus a Heavyweight title fight between Rico Verhoeven and Daniel Ghita. Now, the fight card for the Spike portion and Glory 17 is starting to come together.
Headlining the show will be Mirko Cro Cop. The Pride, K-1, and UFC veteran comes in to this fight off a highly disputed decision loss to Remy Bonjasky - his first kickboxing loss since 2001. Great choice to feature Cro Cop on Spike, as he will surely draw in some more casual fans who will then perhaps stick around for the PPV. His opponent is yet to be determined.
Previously announced was Andy Ristie vs. Ky Hollenbeck, with the winner earning a shot at the Lightweight title, currently held by Davit Kiria. Lightweight is a very exciting division right now as everyone looks to cement his place as the new #1 - this will be a big opportunity for the winner.
Finally, the 4 man Featherweight tournament is beginning to take shape. In one semi-final Gabriel Varga (23-2) takes on Shane Oblonsky (N/A). Varga is ranked #5 at Featherweight and is 2-1 in Glory. He has solid experience, and should be considered a favorite here. Oblonsky will be fighting in front of a hometown crowd, and is a talented fighter, but has a tough outing here. In the other semi-final, Yodkhunpon Sitmonchai (83-21-1) faces an opponent TBA. Yodkhunpon is a traditional Muay Thai fighter coming in off an impressive win in Istanbul. This is a contender tournament, meaning the winner here will move on to a Featherweight title shot.
Here's the full Glory 17 Los Angeles fight card for Saturday, June 21, live on Spike TV.
