World Series of Fighting Signs Canada’s #1 Heavyweight Smealinho Rama
Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:58 pm
The MMA World Series of Fighting announced Friday that Canada’s top heavyweight, Smealinho “The Prince” Rama has signed a deal with the promotion. The Calgary, Alberta based fighter is coming off a first round TKO finish over UFC veteran Tim Hague. Before that, Rama scored a dominant decision over then-undefeated Olympic wrestler, Steve Mocco in the promotion’s Canada card: WSOF Canada: Ford vs. Powell. Rama was a heavy underdog against the Olympian, but proved his merit by dominating Mocco for three full rounds.
World Series of Fighting Canada’s Executive Director Darren Owen spoke on behalf of Rama in an official press release:
“I’ve been very impressed watching Rama’s career develop. He gets better every fight and he’s always looking to finish whether he is looking for the knockout or on his feet or a submission on the ground. I know that he wants to fight the best WSOF has to offer and soon he’ll be doing just that. At only 22 years old, he’s got a bright future ahead of him, and I’m looking forward to watching him fight under our banner.”
Smealinho Rama also stated:
“I’m very excited to sign with the World Series of Fighting. They are the biggest promotion in Canada and one of the best in the World. I want to fight for the WSOF Canada title and then the WSOF World title. I want to fight the best guys in the world and I know with WSOF I’ll get the opportunity to show what I’m capable of.”
Smealinho’s next fight has yet to be announced, but his addition is sure to bulk up the WSOF’s heavyweight roster, which has been slim in comparison to the promotion’s stacked welterweight, lightweight, and bantamweight divisions. You can watch the next installment of WSOF Canada this weekend with WSOF Canada 2: Loiseau vs. Lewis on Saturday, June 7th in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
