UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo "is in deep pain", but wants to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 189.

News broke on Wednesday that the Nova Uniao star has broken his rib during a sparring session in Rio de Janeiro for his July 11 bout with Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. Devastated with the injury, "Scarface" still plans on fighting "The Notorious."

"He cried. He wants this fight bad, everybody invested a lot in this," Nova Uniao head coach Andre Pederneiras told Combate. "I was with him the whole afternoon. He’s heartbroken. He wants to fight anyway. Now we have to wait for the exam results. Aldo is in deep pain."

Sources close to the situation told MMA Fighting that Aldo fractured his rib while training with 5-0 lightweight Alcides Nunes, and Pederneiras won’t make the decision to take Aldo from the card before talking with his doctors on Thursday morning.

"If the fracture is really confirmed, Aldo will have to stop training, do nothing for three or four weeks until it’s fixed, and then he would be able to do any exercise without forcing his rib," the coach said. "And then he would need a normal time to do a training camp: three months. I believe this fight wouldn’t happen before October."

Its not fractured was a bone bruise and cartilage bruise fight is still happening.

If you read the report, the fight may or may not be happening and McGregor-Mendez is a possibility.

His manager basically said aldo will fight if his ribs arent broken or fractured......which they aren't

You obviously don't read too good.

It's still uncertain.

There's an alright chance he'll fight.

There's a fair chance he won't as well.

That was pretty clear from the release.

Ufc release isnt the only report on aldos status.

His trainer and camp both said he'd fight unless the xrays came bak with broken or fractured ribs......which they are not.

The mendes replacement was known before the xrays....its an insurance policy.

You see i do read quite well.....i read more then just the Ufc releases.

I do understand there is a chance he could be forced out but i just dont see him pulling out he really wants this fight.

Since there is no break or fractures i would think hes not going to stop for anyone,aldo is tough and wants to take conor out.

Aldo is scheduled to get $500k to show, $250k if he wins.

Conor is scheduled to get $300k to show, $250k if he wins.

Conor also has a tier based PPV contract ($3 per PPV sold if in the 300k-500k range, $4 per if in the 500k-750k range, $5 per if in the 750k+ range).

So if the PPV does 800k buys, Conor gets 4mil plus 300k to show and 250k if he wins.

Again, the PPV doing 800k buys, Aldo gets 500k to show and 250k if he wins as he has no tier based PPV contract.

Aldo needs to use the leverage he has right now from the injury to get a tier based PPV escalator worked into his contract if he ever hopes to. He's the champ and Conor is about to walk away with near 5mil while Aldo doesn't clear 1mil. I can't imagine he's happy about the situation.

EDIT: No wonder Conor is promoting it so hard, $5 per PPV ordered over 750k which is easily obtainable? Dude would bank almost 6mil if the event can get to the 1mil buys mark. I'd honestly be pretty pissed if I was entering my 8th defense of the title and about to get out-earned by a newcomer by around 5mil to 1mil.

Also most ufc champs get ppv points in their contracts but the percentage is unknown and it is still unknown if aldo has this in his contract.

Either way connor is goibg to make more especially if he wins.

I hope aldo pulls out amd waits to fight i dont wanna hear any excuses about a loss.

A guy canned by Aldo twice beating McGregor would be great.

Dana now says aldo doesn't have broken rib.....he says the pic aldo released was of an old injury.

He also said aldo was really worried about making weight and that was his real issue cuz he had to cut like 24lbs.
