Former Bellator MMA light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary has been pegged to headline Bellator 173 on Feb. 24 in Northern Ireland.

In addition to the main event, 20-year-old Irish prospect James Gallagher (5-0) is expected to make his third Bellator appearance. Gallagher's opponent is still being finalized.

McGeary, 34, surrendered his title to Phil Davis in November. Originally from England, now fighting out of New York, McGeary lost to Davis via unanimous decision at Bellator 163.

Fields, 33, has gone the distance only once in his professional career. Both Fields and Gallagher train out of SBG Ireland in Dublin, home of UFC champion Conor McGregor.

Bellator 173 will be co-promoted, along with United Kingdom promotion BAMMA. The two organizations also co-promoted an event on Dec. 16 in Dublin.

Another co-promotion with BAMMA. Seems like they have a pretty solid partnership kicking off.

The headliner is a total squash.

Main event sucks.

It is a bit weak but at least Bellator continues working with BAMMA.

Mcgeary gettin an easy fight lol.

The card overall is pretty good and i agree i like that they continue to copromote with BAMMA.

Chris Fields has been forced to withdraw from the Bellator 173 light-heavyweight main event bout with Liam McGeary later this month in Belfast due to “an undisclosed injury”.

Vladimir Filipovic (8-2) will replace Fields against McGeary in the main event of Bellator 173.

Filipovic has won 5 of his last 6 bouts including a first round finish of Arpad Torok in his last outing at Serbian Battle Championship 10 in July 2016.

Liam fight was a good one. Worth watching.
