The UK’s top heavyweight Phil De Fries (17-6) will aim to defend his crown once more on home soil when he faces the ’Polish Pitbull’ Damian Grabowski (22-5) in the main event of KSW 50 at The SSE Arena, Wembley on September 14.
De Fries made history last year at KSW 45 by becoming the first non-Polish fighter to win a KSW title and then defend it in his home country when he submitted former champion Karol Bedorf in the second round. The 33-year-old’s run of late has been nothing short of incredible. Following a run in the UFC, in which De Fries suffered crippling anxiety throughout, the heavyweight had mixed results around the world and nearly gave up on fighting.
However, towards the end of 2017 he found a new lease on life and began getting everything back on track again. Now Sunderland’s own is currently riding a five-fight-win-streak with victories coming over the likes of James Thompson, Michal Andryszak, the aforementioned Karol Bedorf, and, most recently, Tomas Narkun in a KSW Champ vs. Champ Superfight. It’s easy to say De Fries is now one of the best heavyweight fighters on the planet today.
One man who won’t be phased by De Fries’ recent form is opponent Damian Grabowski. The 39-year-old has seen it all throughout his storied career and boasts a résumé few can match. The former M-1 champion has competed in the UFC and Bellator before finally making his long awaited KSW debut in May earlier this year with an emphatic TKO win over Karol Bedorf. This performance earned him his shot at the title and he will do anything to add the KSW heavyweight title to his trophy cabinet.
KSW 50 looks set to be one of the biggest events in promotional history with no less than three title fights already on the bill. In addition to De Fries vs. Grabowski we will see the explosive Tomasz Narkun (16-3) defend his KSW light heavyweight title, welterweight king Roberto Soldic (16-3) will also defend his title and recently announced was the interim title fight between Norman Parke (27-6-1) and Marian Ziolkowski (21-7-1).
