Fighting artist Ben Saunders wants to 'see someone get [fucked] up' at Bellator 67 Empty Fighting artist Ben Saunders wants to 'see someone get [fucked] up' at Bellator 67

To put it simply, Bellator Fighting Championships welterweight tourney semifinalist Ben Saunders (13-4-2 MMA, 4-1 BFC) is out for blood.

As he prepares to face Bryan Baker (17-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) at Friday's Bellator 67 event, Saunders knows his job as a professional fighter is to bring a little violence to the cage.

"I am a fan of this sport, and when I go to a fight, I want to see violence," Saunders told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I want to see blood, and I want to see someone get [expletive] up. As a fighter, I feel that it is my job to give the fans what they want. At the end of the day if one of my fights ends without a finish, I feel I have not done my job."

Saunders ran into that exact problem on March 30, when he downed Raul Amaya via decision at Bellator 63. The win moved Saunders into the semifinals of Bellator's season-six tournament, but he admits he was less than satisfied with his performance.

"I am not happy in my last performance against Raul Amaya because I really don't think he should have gotten out of the first round," Saunders said. "I should have finished him. I can't believe I actually had to go to a decision, so I am really frustrated with going into this fight with Bryan Baker. I know I am better than that and I am going to prove that in this next fight."

Baker also has a penchant for violence, scoring eight career knockouts while competing as a middleweight. Now competing at 170 pounds, "The Beast" offers a real challenge to Saunders, who at 6-foot-3 usually enjoys a bit of a size advantage over his opponents.

"Bryan Baker is a bit unorthodox, and he's tall and has good reach just like me," Saunders said. "It's almost like we are fighting ourselves as far as body types go, but stylistically we are completely different from each other. He's got a weird goofy style, but when you have someone who has just as good of range as you, it definitely presents some obstacles. I'm counting on going out there and being the better technician in every aspect.

"The second the first bell rings in this fight with Bryan Baker, I am coming out there to finish him. I'm not out there to play games. I have the conditioning to finish in three rounds, and I will be happy to go the third round if that's what it calls for, but I'm coming at him right from the beginning of this fight."

Baker advanced to the bout with a split-decision win over Carlos Alexandre Pereira. It certainly wasn't Baker's best performance after what he admits was a difficult weightcut. And though Baker has vowed to rebound in peak form this time around, Saunders isn't so sure his opponent will be able to make the adjustment.

"Bryan Baker has only cut to 170 pounds once, and he didn't look good," Saunders said. "It doesn't matter what he looked like at 185 pounds. I'm only going off of what I saw at 170 pounds, and I wasn't impressed. It looked like the weightcut really drained him."

Of course, to Saunders, his opponent's condition hardly matters. Friday night is time to uncork his inner demons and bring a little violence to the Bellator 67 broadcast.

"I am an artist to the core, Saunders said. "My elbows are blades, my knees are knives, and my hands are sledgehammers, so I am just trying to utilize all of my different tools to go out there and paint my masterpiece on my opponents face.

"I wasn't completely satisfied with the picture I painted on Raul Amaya's face. It definitely could have been a little more abstract. A nice broken nose or a little gash above the eye would have definitely helped, but I'll take it.

"I am a martial artist in the truest sense, and I am always trying to paint a picture out there on my opponent's face. But I am never happy with the picture I paint. I am always trying to paint the perfect picture, and that is what I am trying to do in my next fight against Bryan Baker."

Saunders and Baker serve as the co-feature of Friday's fight card, which takes place at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, Canada. The night's main card airs on MTV2.
