Bibiano Fernandez - "It may be many people's dream to fight for the UFC , but not mine"

Apart from family, it’d be a great opportunity for Bibiano, but when you put the family in the picture it’s not worth it. I don’t fight for me. I have people who rely on me. I’ve built what I had to build in MMA. It can be many people’s dream to fight in the UFC, but it ain’t mine. It’s all business to me.

Bellator is the place to be. They will have the best divisions in the lower weight classes in a near future.

OneFC is a good place to be too, seeing as how the Asian fighters are historically more or less dominant in the lower weight divisions in combat sports, and OneFC is making big moves in this part of the world. And apparently he found their contract more acceptable.

Bibi is a smart guy, he clearly knows how zuffa is doing business, low balling their fighters and what not. Him and Sergei won't fall for chump change.

No doubt. Right now Bellator has better divisions but I have high expectations on ONE. M-1 just started a BW division but with the amount of talents in east europe it will soon be legit also.

It seems that recently, fewer and fewer well established fighters are finding it acceptable to sign with Zuffa. That, or they are even purged from the Zuffa "payroll" (see King Mo for instance, and I put "payroll" in quotes because 1. it is inaccurate (fighters are private contractors and not employees), and 2. because I hate the "employee" analogies (that is to say, when its used by people who don't understand the actual business structures, which forces me to clarify, due to the prevalence of this particular fallacy).

Zuffa's entire model is to promote from within basically. Fighters who have significant value due to exploits outside of the UFC (not even the Zuffa umbrella) are not deemed worthy of big paychecks. This is enhanced by the fact that Zuffa underpays their fighters generally. Furthermore, paying a newcomer his true value, while continuing to chronically underpay other guys is also bad business, as it agitates the fighters earning less money. Finally, the Zuffa contracts are obviously extremely one-sided, and deprive guys of ownership of their livelihoods. I think Bibi sort of alluded to this last fact when talking about his family and what not.

So much for being "the pinnacle of the sport" when people don't want to fight for your organisation and see through your contracts. People saying that "Japan was all smoke and mirrors" must be feeling stupid right now.
