Waachiim Spiritwolf Pouring More Gas on the Dynamite in Trilogy with Marious Zaromskis Empty Waachiim Spiritwolf Pouring More Gas on the Dynamite in Trilogy with Marious Zaromskis

Waachiim Spiritwolf isn’t the kind of fighter to take things slow. He’s aggressive both in his fight style and in the way he approaches his career, thus when a cut ended his second bout with Marius Zaromskis in Bellator this past May, he wasted no time in getting ready for the rubber match.

“I’ve been training non-stop since the end of the last fight; the very next week after I went right into a training camp anticipating a third fight,” he told MMAWeekly.com.

With both fights between he and Zaromskis ending abruptly, Spiritwolf was asked if he feels unsatisfied with the outcomes of these fights more so than he would with a more decisive ending.

“I think it is a little frustrating, but I love to fight and to compete, so I feel extra motivation to win this fight and put a punctuation mark on this trilogy,” he said. “I’m going to really knock him out or submit him and put an end to this.

“I’m not a big fan of controversy, but I understand controversy is what draws fans to this. When people think of our trilogy, you’ll think of it as one of ‘you’ll never know what’s going to happen.’ I definitely want to have a definitive ending to this trilogy.”

Spiritwolf will get his chance to put an exclamation point on his series with Zaromskis when the two meet on a feature bout at Bellator 72 on July 20 in Tampa, Fla.

“I feel like I won both of those rounds (in May) and I feel like I had him finished in the second round, so I feel like he’s the one who is going to have to scramble and find new things to do,” said Spiritwolf. “MMA is a game of chess, and you have to be a step ahead of your opponent, so I’m already anticipating the changes he’s going to have to make and focused on countering them.”

Regardless of how the third fight turns out, Spiritwolf is ultimately happy to have had a trilogy with Zaromskis on his resume.

“I’ve enjoyed this trilogy with him because he’s so well respected,” Spiritwolf said. “Us fighting is like mixing gasoline and dynamite and getting a big boom, so it’s been really exciting for me.”

Turning his attention towards the future, Spiritwolf acknowledges he doesn’t have the best record in MMA at 9-10-1, but he feels he’s done the best in the situations provided him and will continue to work hard to do so each and every time out.

“I would definitely love to get as many wins as possible – that’s the goal of every fighter – unfortunately I’ve only fought the best person (available at the time),” he said. “It’s difficult for me to get fights unless it’s a big fight on a main card and my opponents are usually top contenders.

“I just embrace the moment, look at it at a challenge and do my absolute best to go in there fight-ready, in the best shape possible and focused on putting on a great performance for the fans and hopefully get my hand raised in victory.”
