No Holds Barred: Bibiano Fernandes

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with multi-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA champion Bibiano Fernandes (https://www.facebook.com/bibianofernandes.bjj).

Currently the holder of the Dream bantamweight title, Bibiano Fernandes will be making his debut in ONE FC on August 31 in a fight against another champion, Gustavo Falciroli, who currently holds the CFC (Cage Fighting Championship) bantamweight title.

ONE FC: Pride of a Nation will take place Friday, August 31, at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, the Philippines.

We spoke with Bibiano Fernandes by phone Monday as he was making his preparations for this fight.

Speaking about Gustavo Falciroli, against whom he is favored, he explained in this interview, "I believe today I have no easy fights. Everybody knows something today." And about his opponent, he said, "He's a very good talent. He's good. I respect that."

We also discussed his transition from just competing in BJJ to becoming a world-renowned MMA fighter; his introduction to MMA at a Jungle Fight event in Manaus, Brazil; his facing King of the Cage champion Urijah Faber at a 2006 King of the Cage event in only his second professional MMA fight; his fighting in Japan in Dream where he held the featherweight and later bantamweight titles; the erroneous reports that he had signed with UFC; why he instead chose to sign with ONE FC; the tremendous reception ONE FC received at their recent prefight press conference in the Philippines; his deep devotion to his family, including a new addition expected shortly; and much more.

Bibi is an awesome guy It sucks he doesn't want to fight as often but it's understandable he wants to spend more time with his family and ONE FC can pay him enough to be able to do so. Bibi is a world champion and Zuffa wanted to act like they didn't need to pay him as such. Anyways that was fun learning more about him and I can't wait for his bout against Falciroli, it sounds like Bibi isn't taking this fight lightly.
