No Holds Barred: Renzo Gracie, Rolles Gracie, Igor Gracie, Gregor Gracie

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with four members of the legendary Gracie family: Renzo Gracie (http://www.twitter.com/RenzoGracieBJJ), Rolles Gracie (http://www.twitter.com/RollesGracie), Igor Gracie (http://www.twitter.com/igorgracie), and Gregor Gracie (http://www.twitter.com/GregorGracie).

We spoke with them on Thursday afternoon at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York where Renzo was leading an intense training session. Rolles Gracie, Igor Gracie, and Gregor Gracie are all scheduled to fight on the ONE FC: Pride of a Nation card Friday, August 31, at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, the Philippines.

On that card, Rolles Gracie will be fighting King of the Cage cruiserweight champion Tony Bonello, Igor Gracie will be fighting Korean welterweight Jung Hwan Cha, and Gregor Gracie will be fighting URCC light heavyweight champion Nicholas Mann.

We discussed their recent fights, what to expect in what should be competitive fights for all of them, and their all looking forward to fighting in front of an enthusiastic sellout crowd in the same arena in the Philippines which housed the legendary "Thrilla in Manila" between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in 1975. Fighting with his brothers on the same card will be, according to Rolles, "a dream come true." In addition, Renzo acknowledged that he would take a rematch of his Pride 10 fight with Kazushi Sakuraba under the right conditions.

I sure hope that Rolles has improved his cardio a lot. I can't remember his last 2 fights but boy did he look bad in his first & last appearance in the UFC. Igor and Gregor's fights sound interesting.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Renzo has a picture from his fight with Sakuraba and a poster from his 1996 fight with Oleg Taktarov on the wall of his New York academy. I covered both of those fights, so we have known each other for a long time and have been through a lot together.

As for Rolles, he has not shown cardio problems in other fights. He is a low-key guy, and I wonder if being in that hyper Zuffa environment got to him. That said, his opponent at ONE FC on August 31, Tony Bonello, has only lost once. They did not give any of the Gracies easy fights on this card.
