Shinya Aoki backstage footage before and after Dynamite 2009 match with Mizuto Hirota

When Mizuto Hirota failed to show at a press conference leading up to K-1 Dynamite!! 2009, the fuse had been lit. The damage was done, the insult had been made – Hirota had no respect for his opponent, DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki. And while Aoki had been on a tear submitting opponents and finishing off former champ Joachim Hansen in the waning moments of their fight, Hirota seemed not to care. There lie a mortal mistake.

When the bell rang, Aoki did his normal thing. He waited patiently for the opening and took his opponent down. What happened next was one man’s skill and another’s pride. Aoki put Hirota in a chicken wing, the same move we did to our friends growing up, always wondering what would happen if we pushed it up the next notch. What we saw was the result of “What would happen if I pushed it a shade further?” Hirota’s arm snapped, and an angered Aoki bolted back to the locker backstage area.
