No Holds Barred: Andrei Arlovski, Devin Cole, World Series of Fighting Debut

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses the context in which the debut card for the World Series of Fighting will be taking place this Saturday, November 3, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The top fights will be televised live in the U.S. on NBC Sports Network. But to establish a successful promotion, World Series of Fighting still faces major challenges, which we note.

We also spoke with the main event fighters, heavyweights Andrei Arlovski and Devin Cole, on a recent media conference call, to get their views on how they expect this fight to go.

The co-main event on this card will be a light heavyweight fight between Anthony Johnson and D.J. Linderman. Also on the televised card, Miguel Torres will fight Marlon Moraes in a bantamweight bout and Gregor Gracie will take on Tyson Steele in a welterweight bout.

We open with comments on the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, particularly in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, where many people are still without power, food, housing, and other necessities. (It was announced late Friday afternoon after this show was recorded that the New York Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, November 4, has been cancelled.) However, conditions have been slowly improving in the region. Two combat sports events scheduled for next weekend are still slated to go on as planned: the Billy Robinson catch wrestling seminar at Modern Martial Arts in Englishtown, New Jersey, on November 10, and the New York Athletic Club International tournament in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan in New York City, November 9-10.
